# 1 Tractor Beam fun

Anyone else really dig the tractor beam?

You can almost hear the Klingons yeling and shaking their fists in PvP as they struggle to turn or get away.

I've seen maybe 3 people in PvP use the tractor beam at a time when it did some good for them. Otherwise it's wasted. Nothing like being tractor beamed at the start of a fight while no one is targeting me.

Then there are the times when I'm sure folk think they've made a difference. But I'm sorry to say that putting a tractor beam on me when my shields are gone and I'm being focus fired by the team and at 8% hull integrity is not making a difference.

Besides I can polarize hull to counter it. But yes tractor beam is actually good if used right.

You should really try boarding party + eject warp plasma as they're tractor beamed

Yeah, the egg shelled BoPs really suffer when tractored. But the way feds are playing right now, all I do is set full power to engines, hit evasive maneuvers, and escape 90% of the time. Come on feds!! equip more tractor beams! I don't even have polarize hull since so few people use tractors.

My escort buddy has Tractor Beam (I don't 'cause he does) and I have T.Ryft II (Will move on to III soon) and Emergency to Aux.

Fill in the blanks.

It's fun. You should try it.

I use Tracotr in t2 pvp, most Fed do not know how to counter this, so they kinda die quickly enough.

When used on me, My first counter is jam. if not available, evasive, but I have not seen many feds using this.

I love me some tractor beams. I use it in four situations in PVP.

1. Death combo on escorts attacking me from my side. I run a max beam cruiser, so all my firepower is on the sides. An escort coming in from the sides is running into my jaws. They are usually trying to close fast unloading their cannons on me. My beams will rip up their front shield before they get to 5 km. As soon as they hit 5 km, I hit tractor beam, attack pattern beta and chop my throttles. My damage goes up massively and they can't turn to another facing. Since a full beam salvo from a Galaxy will generate 28 attacks in five seconds, by the time anyone hits polarize hull it's already too late.

2. Agro draw. If two or more enemies are chasing down a teammate, I can try to even the odds by rushing in to 5 km and hitting the biggest threat with a tractor beam. This can give me teammate an opportunity to recover while the guy I hit with the tractor will be forced to engage or react to me.

3. Winning a death spiral against an escort. I can never win a turning battle against an escort, and I never should. But if an escort has gotten too close, combining tractor beam and evasive maneuvers, even in a Galaxy, can be enough to get a quick turn in on a pursuing escort. Since I only need about 45 degrees of a turn to bring my forward guns into arc, it can quickly turn the tables in a normally hopeless situation.

4. Finishing move. When chasing down a wounded enemy that is going to either cloak or evasive away soon, the tractor beam can hold them in place long enough to finish them off. This catches people off guard too. They are usually timing when to make their escape before things get out of control. The tractor beam messes this up and they do not have their escape available when they want it.

Yes, polarize hull can neutralize your tractor beams, but unless you're in a science ship you're giving up some good science abilities to take it. And in a multi-ship battle the advantage you can get from tractoring someone just for a second or two before they can react and polarize hull can be enough.

And obviously, if your opponent does not have polarize hull, they're rightly screwed.

Tractor for the win.
Its a great way to win an escort death sprial. Its also great on an escort vs escort nose dive. Assuming both of us survive the first suicide chicken run tractor as you pass over and turn unload into their aft. I've scored many kills with this.
Tractor defense - have an escort on your tail at .5km tractor and turn at that close of a distance its very easy to move out of their 45 arc.

Tractor for the loss - LOL I've pulled off this embarrassing combo a few times and it always makes me laugh at myself. tractor + evassive maneuvers and cut throttle as you turn to line up behind your target... if done right it parks me at a dead stop 1km directly behind my target with them tractored. HOWEVER if I don't cut throttle soon enough or start my turn too close I've parked myself with my aft directly in front of their forward guns exactly the opposite of what I wanted!

And to the poster that says tractor is wasted on a damaged target, I can't count the number of times a kling has jetted away at the last minute with hull at 10% and shields dropped and survived. A well time tractor may not stop him completely when using evasive plus engine batteries but it can slow the target just enough to get off one more salvo of torps for the kill.
