My away team usually rolls over enemies without any problems and I don't micromanage at all and let them do their thing. My away team make up is:

2 x engineers, both with shield domes and 1 mortar and 1 phaser turret. 1 mine barrier, 1 wpn malfunction
1 x science officer with gravmetric shift and other holds/debuffs.
1 x tac officer with grenade powers.

I'm a tac officer with grenade kit so ground combat usually opens up with me bombing them with several grenades. Even the borg don't give me much trouble now.

Tactical : Leg Sweep I / Lunge II / Draw Fire III / Surpressing Fire III
Tactical : Focus Fire I / Target Optics I / Overwatch I / Surpressing Fire III
Engineering : Recharge Shield I / Shield Generator I / Quantum Morter I / Medical Generator II
Science : Gravametric Shift I / Tachyon Harmonic II / Dampening Field I / Hyperonic Radiation I

I experimented with a full tactical ground team, Making sure they all had "surpressing fire" which slows the targets it worked to a degree but without the crowed control and heals i had to work hard to keep my character alive.

I've pretty much stayed with the same away team I've had since the start. I just tweaked their skills.

For my Science Officer - Commander Rank:
I have:
1 science officer with all the heals as my back up healer. I personally have the healing kit with all the higher level skills but its good to have back up.
1 science officer with the debuffing abilities
1 engineer that has mines, phaser turret and healing generator
1 tactical that has .. hmm, can never remember what he can do.. but whatever he does it seems to work

I'm currently working on a 3rd science officer with the ability to clean off our debuffs and buff us and will at some point work her into the group as a replacement for my tactical officer and see how that goes.

My Engineer Officer - Lieutenant Commander Rank:
She has:
1 science officer with the healing abilities
1 engineer with phaser turrent, mines and shield generator - I have healing generator
1 tactical doing whatever they do.
I can't recall if I had a full group yet or if it is still being filled with security officers.

Tactical operative captain with bat'leth and anti-proton compression pistol
Science officer with stun beam phaser pistol and medic training
Tactical officer with phaser bolt sniper rifle and close combat training
Tactical officer with polaron blast assault and a bunch of weapon abilities
Engineering officer with shield buffs, shield generators and apply weapon malfunction

I am only Commander 7 and I roll with:

Me with a kit that has Medical Healing 1, Phase Turret 2, Shield Generator 2

Engineer 1 and 2 each have Phase Turret 2, The Shield Heal, and something else
Science has the straight heal
Tactical has Photon Grenade and Suppressing Fire.

They all have either a sniper or a split beam weapon so lots of fire power ands turrets.
