United Federation of Planets Fifth Fleet
"Crimson Dragoons"
provectus per imperceptus

======================================

Fleet Information:
The 5th is one of Starfleet's oldest exploration groups and traces its lineage back to the Terran maritime Fifth Fleet of the United States. It has enjoyed a long history of discovery on the frontier and its officers carry on a proud tradition of being at the forefront of the Federation's deep-space exploration and research.

Initially established as a cartography corps, the fleet's scope gradually broadened into the sciences as its ships encountered previously unknown cosmic phenomenon and lifeforms across the galaxy. While these two pursuits remain at the core of the 5th's mission, the absorption of numerous cruisers and escorts into the fleet during the Dominion War has resulted in a mixture of vessels capable of performing nearly any task.

Current Mission:
Presently the fleet is assigned to the Beta Ursae Sector Block with Deep Space Nine as its base of operations. Its mission includes:
  • Defending the Bajorans and Cardassians from True Way militants and Terran Empire forces.
  • Charting and studying the Badlands.
  • Scientific inquiry into the 'Mirror Universe' and means of travel between the parallel realities.
  • Exploration of the nearby Rolor and Betrenka Nebulae as well as the Zenas Expanse.
  • Expeditions into the Gamma Quadrant via the Bajoran Wormhole.
At various times ships from the 5th may be found in all parts of the Alpha Quadrant on individual assignments, but its primary scope of focus lies in the Bajor Sector.

The Crimson Dragoons style ourselves as a "mid-core" roleplaying fleet in Star Trek Online. We play these games to have fun and enjoy ourselves, so you won't find a group burdened with excessive rules, regulations, activity requirements or demands. The average age of player in the group is around 30 years; most of us have new families, homes, careers and outside interests so online gaming can't always be the priority it once was.

We use our public channel and tells as OOC tools and prefer to do our roleplaying face to face (as it were), and when we do get together for RP we strive to create a totally immersive atmosphere. In-game ranks (levels) are considered OOC and members are encouraged to pick the IC rank which best suits them.
Like everyone else right now, we're still mostly learning the game and enjoying the ride to Admiral, but the RP is starting to pick up and looks to have a bright future ahead.
Our RP is heavily informed by what the game offers, and currently as it is almost entirely combat-oriented so must we all be. If the game is ever expanded to allow more in-depth non-combat activities, we plan on embracing them and using them to tell stories with a more traditional Star Trek flavor. In-character exploration missions are our goal, and it will become easier to coordinate as the level gaps close or in-game tools are implemented to address the current obstacles roleplayers are facing.

The Crimson Dragoons was originally founded in 2003 for roleplay in Star Wars Galaxies as the Crimson Mercenary Dragoons (CMD). Over time new members have joined and we are proud of the small but close group of friends which has evolved. In addition to SWG, the guild has been active to varying degrees in Everquest II, World of ******** and Warhammer: Age of Reckoning, with members individually playing nearly every MMO that's been released in the last 7 years. Not all members play all of the games, but we stay in touch with one another informally on our forum.

Feel free to join us on our public channel '5thFleet' to chat with us or ask any questions you might have about the fleet, and sign up at our forum to introduce yourself!

There are about eighteen fleets in the game all called the Fifth (or 5th). Please don't make it any more confusing by hijacking this thread to recruit for yours. We're looking for the serious roleplayers who wouldn't be happy in just any fleet.

Seriously link me to these other 18 Fleets, the only reason I posted was so that you could see and possibly rethink your name to avoid confusion.

Well, there's the Fifth Fleet Star Trek Fan Club (http://www.fifth-fleet.org/) which has been around since 1988. We're not affiliated with them, but, yeah. If anyone gets to monopolize the name, it's them. Otherwise, you can do a search in the game for fleets called "Fifth" and then "5th" and you'll see what I mean. It's probably easier if we all just share and not try to stake claims on numbers.

Greetings, Etherghost! I am a long-time roleplayer interested in a stable, relatively low-drama roleplaying fleet -- looks like you guys might be what I'm after. I registered over at your forums -- I do have a few questions, so I'll keep any eye out for one of you folks. See you around!

Hey there! I haven't received a confirmation email yet from the Dragoons forum, so I haven't been able to post an introduction. What would you like me to do next? Thanks!

You'll probably want to check your junk mail folder and see if the email wasn't blocked. I'm pretty sure it's an automated mail that goes out within a few minutes after you create the account. I'll check into that though, we just upgraded the forum and are still putting it all back together.

It turned out the new forum wasn't sending out the confirmation emails properly, but we've gotten that fixed and working again. Thank you for saying something and letting me know there was an issue.

You're all set with the validation and can sign in any time you like!
