Geez, I'm horrible then. My engineer hasn't run a cruiser yet. I'm and Admiral 4 in a luna Class science vessel. I use that or a advanced tactical cruiser if I'm in the mood to be different.

I am going to report you to the game police.

Do you rip the mattress tags over you bed as well? Well?

Actually, going back to the why, I believe the why is that the ships as lined up have more counsels in that discipline based on the order you describe. By having the captain having the same speciality you can stack on that stuff to a greater degree, which can give a person an advantage in ship combat. Beyond that, it's nothing more than play style.

There is an advantage in going with the ships for your classes. An escort has more Tac BO slots, and thus you will benefit more from the level III abilities that you are able to train them in.

That said, if you want to play a Tac in a Science ship, that is your prerogative, and as long as you are having fun, that is all that should matter.

Considering I'm engineer on science ship, guess that makes me gimped? The only problem I see is not being able to train max level ability on a max level officer, of which, if I'm not mistaken, you have one in your ship (the other BO using a lower level console so can't use the ability?). And most probably you can find that ability or something similar through the spam of BOs the game throws at you, and eventually (when they get to fix it) someone else can train your BO their ability so the point becomes moot.

This game does a great job at making it so you can play however you want. Breaking out of the box? More power to you =)

Mixing and matching works well...for leveling and solo or small group play. It may even be superior/preferable, in PvP (I honestly have no clue at this point).

However, once we get actual end-game raid content (this assumes Cryptic is actually capable of designing such content, which at this point is still up in the air) all bets are off. I will not be doing group/fleet content with mix-n-matches. While you may do fine now, if raid content is appropriately tuned you will be sub-par to a pure build in a raid role.

Aww... My Tac/Cruiser captain is all crushed. Oh wait, no he's not. I actually don't give two waste storage pods about your elitist opinion. I have my own fleet to do content with.

Same here, Steel (right down to Tac/Cruiser). My RADM Fleet members and I have been hitting Borg space since it opened up to get ready for the Raidisodes, and only one of us is same-specced.

Tactical Cruisers can kick some serious butt. I out-DPS Escorts all the time which isn't an easy task.

I don't.

But that's okay, as I'm built more for survivability than DPS.
