This actually reminds me of some of the first Quake 1 DM bots. They had issues crossing any floor that had physical holes/grating in the ground, because the AI thought the hole was not solid ground and they would fall down if they proceeded. I suspect the grated catwalks in this mission are similar to that, as opposed to being a texture layer that the AI recognizes as a solid floor.

That being said, it is a hell of a puzzle tutorial in team waypointing.
