Quantums, tricobalts, photons and the odd plasma.

The Tricobalt is a wonderful rear ark weapon, but not so great as a forward arc weapon.

I suppose a really good TAC in an Escort could pull off making it deadly as a forward arc weapon, but I am not that good yet.

I use it as a a fly by launcher after doing an Alpha strike after which I zoom to saftey and launch it at my target as I pass by.

It will not work in conjunction with HYT skill because it simply does not need it because it does such massive damage on its own, nor will it work for Salvo as it is an inate AOE weapon just as is.

It really is not even a torpedo. More like a flying Bomb that operates as a sort of Mine. It is slow, but faster than a Plasma and can be shot down. My Tricobalts land at least 75% of the time that I use them though, so it is not an issue to NOT take them. Not near as frustrating as trying to use a Plasma.

You will definately want to have a regular type torpedo mounted in addition to it though for most pilots.

Nope, you can't apply torp buffs to it, so tacs will always stick with their yummy high yield 3s.

Here's the breakdown as I see it:

If you are a tactical officer in an escort and therefore have high yield 3, quadroupling your damage every 45 seconds, or rather every fifth shot or so, your dps has thereby exceeded what you could be doing with photon torpedos. You are also not gauranted the ability to point your nose at what you're fighting all the time, so quantums are the best for tac escort.

As stated above tricobalts are an excellent alternative for the poor man on the tactical totem pole. Star Cruisers for example. They can be shot out of the air on their basic fire though so they wont be useful in pvp once people get used to em. Same goes for High Yield plasma

Plasma and Tricobalt are not consistent damage, or precise damage, compared to high yield quantums, but they do produce the most overall damage when your dry firing constantly, so imo they're best for getting and keeping aggro on your tanks.

Tranphasics seem to be a pvp fav as they're not to concerned with shields. Cronitons are also good for pvp for their ability to stop the enemy dead.

Escort = Quantums
dps cruiser = photons
Tank cruiser = plasma up front, tricobalt in the rear.
pvp = transphasic or chroniton based on your style.
