As SDD said Temperature is one of the main causes for something like this to happen followed closely by insufficient power and the card not being seated quite right.

Edit: Also if you have OC'd your card or any other part of your PC try running it at stock speeds and see if that helps.

1: how do i know if it's OC?

2: how do i DC it?

3: if i can play AVP3 with no problems do you think its a Temp problem? i don't think so.

I have the same card and have never had problems with it. There is the possibility that you haven't assembled the system properly or you've got a broken card.

^ Yeah that. My system's just slightly older than yours and I built it from scratch as well. I have the MSI 275 GTX and it runs perfectly with maximum settings across the board.

Don't worry too much about it.

Try using Riva tuner to max out your GPU Fan...

I have the nVidia GTS250 and It works fine with ST:O, and Mass Effect 2 but constantly crashes on Mass Effect 1.

1. if you didn't OC it chances are its not OC'd

2. Not sure what program is used for OC with XFX but a quick google search would get you the answer and then you could download the program and OC or return it to default.

3. Actually its very possible that it could be a heating issue since STO could be taxing/demanding more from your GPU than AVP

A quick temporary solution you could try for temp issues is, if you have a small case with no or only 1 or two fans you could take the side panel of to cool the inside of the case. (only if the side panel has no fan on it though)
