# 1 The Hive (Elite)
02-10-2014, 12:12 AM
Hi guys, I played The Hive Space (Elite) with my fleet about 2 months ago.
We didn't managed to complete it (we had very good ships, JH Dreadnought, Monbosh, Scimitars and my Fleet Ha'Feh LOL).

We managed to kill cubes and spheres, but when the 2 unimatrix ships warped in, we didn't managed to do anything:

- First they used their Heavy Beams (don't remember the name) at 25Km away O_O !!
- Then, when we (the ones who survived LOL) placed ourselves beetween the 2 unimatrix ships, near the queen, again they hit us with their Beams -_-

Now: I know it was bugged, but even if it has been fixed, what is the strategy ?
How to complete bonus objectives ?

Every time after the fix I was able to beat it with different teams, it's a combination of focussed dps and lots of sci debuffs I believe. Stay close together and let at least one or two look out for the plasma bolts.

99 percent of the time people die its from 1 of 2 causes

1. They take too long to kill the unimatrices and eventually the borg get bored and just end them

2. Some moron shoots a huge DPS spike into one with thir feedback pulse from hell up, and it causes all of the stuff aggroed on them to go haywire and wipe everyone else.

Otherwise ive run hives under 5 minutes before, total time start to finish. A good group is all you really need.

Don't forget about communication and a clear plan of attack! use your waiting time wisely at the beginning.

Start from the top and work your way down and around, then stay near queenie and all shoot the same unimatrix ship, stop if you see blue fire coming at you. Then stay 5km from queenie when they go down or she'll use her "I'm bored" attack and kill everyone within 5km, usually a 2m recharge on that but only seen it trigger if people are within 5km.

Subnuke the feedback pulses and you're golden. Done it in about 3m10s or something like that, current record is 1m52s afaik but that'ss not counting the 1min at the beginning.

P.S. Thanks stoutes for the gratz on NWS.

It occurs to me that #1 is a problem, as the length of time it takes for the stupid mission to get 'bored' is not really known.

Before I go any further, I'll state for the record that I don't care about "you are doing it wrong" comments. I don't care how uber some of you are and I will note that I have played numerous instances of this wreck of a mission successfully. However, I have played several which resulted in stupid one-hit KO's and broken mechanics all over the place too. Just because some people haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Anyway, literally minutes ago bailed on a failed instance of this. It wasn't a bad team either - the problem was the aforementioned 'unspecified time limit' which resulted in:

- the 'under the guns' buff DID. NOT. WORK. I tried it. Everyone else tried it at different points. We ALL got uber-lanced.
- I was one-hit KO lanced from 33.5km away from the nearest unimatrix ship
- staying near the queen DID. NOT. WORK.
- the whole team getting wiped out by a combo of being lanced AT THE SPAWN POINT and overwhelmed by the sheer number of probes/tractor spheres/regeneration spheres.

Sorry, that is BROKEN. I know some 'heroes' think it's easy but I defy anyone to beat a bugged instance, because you can't kill something that, quite often, won't let you get within weapons range.

moar dakka winz best baws!!

In other words more damage = less worry as it's all dead before it gets a chance to kill you. Yes I also mean being lanced, been in many where someone gets lanced but the damage being done is stupid so it's no great loss. They just respawn while we all kill queenie, sometimes they just respawn, pick up loot and it's gg.

Saying this is not the same as saying "you suck" or "look how 1337 we are" or anything else someone will no doubt twist my words into. It's simply a fact that you cannot tank the hit, you cannot debuff it, the best way to deal with it is to kill it before it kills you.

Which is really sad and one of the reasons I'm not logging in today, I'm extremely p****ed off by how messed up the balance is.

sitting near the inert queen protects you, but ONCE SOME POOR SAP GETS REAMED it is OVER FOR THAT PLAYER. Every time the poor victim respawns he will be zapped again at the spawn point or in transit. A stealth ship MIGHT get past it safely and get back into the game, but anyone else is doomed to die over and over at the spawn location. This is the most idiotic game mechanic I have seen in *years*. Its not the absolute worst ever, but its close.

How to beat Hive Elite:

1. Move tac cubes away from each other, and focus fire them down. It helps to take out spheres first. Don't worry about dying, just get back in the action asap.

2. Once borg phallic symbols spawn, have entire party move VERY QUICKLY to the queen. Sit right by her. Focus fire a SINGLE phallic symbol down, then do the other. Be wary of feedback pulse-ish thing and plasma torps.

3. Once queenie spawns, stay EXACTLY 7.0KM away from her. You cannot be smacked by her green BS cloud that way. Be wary of feedback pulse, and scramble sensors.

You win. Congrats.

Note: To make this easier, players need to be using gear that reduces plasma damage. MACO, Omega, and Borg sets work great. Fleet gear is also good.

Sardak: Captain of a 13k DPS Aves Class Science Destroyer, R.R.W. Vathos
Zax Narale: Captain of a 20k DPS Fleet Galaxy X Dreadnought Battlecruiser, U.S.S. Picard's Fist
