I didn't notice this until recently.

I went to some extremes setting up my BOFFs with the space skills I desired.

While I was using my tactical escort, I had access to more fighting skills.

When I started using my assualt cruiser, these skills were reduced in favor of engineering skills.

And as yet, my science BOFF has been completly unable to use her higher level skills.

It's probably not possible, but is there a way to make sure all skill types are usuable in space, without having to own 3 different ships to do so?

The only ship I know of is the starter ship. The Miranda type ships.

Then the vessels become more specialized. Thats sort of the point of having them. Escorts have more tactical stuff, Cruisers more engineering, Science more science stuff.

Naturally. This defines the ships and their purposes.

Escorts = DPS

Cruisers = Tanks

Science = Buffs / deBuffs

The idea is that you're supposed to specialise in line with your career - Fly a Science-focused, Engineering-Focused or Tactical-Focused Ship.

Play Klinks and captain a Bird of Prey.

They have universal stations, so they can be as balanced as you like!

If they ever get some PvE content, I very much want one. Not just for that, which is awesome by itself, but the mindblowing turning rate! Makes our escorts look like cruisers!

Fly a BoP Universal Boff slots. Cannot get better than that.... Well, if you can ignore the tiny crew and measly hull strength

I'd love to see more variety in ships, and less of an emphasis on science career people flying science ships. A ship whose premise is "balance" is a cool thought.

But to keep the ship balanced it would have to be just OK in all three areas. Sure I could have a ship that gave me equal access to my engineering, science, and tactical BOff abilities. But it couldn't be as good as any of the other ships are individually of the same level, or no one would play specialist ships. What would end up happening is that you have a ship that either everyone played because it was superior to all other ships, or a ship no one would play since it didn't allow the higher level abilities that the other ships allowed.

Honestly, my best character is a Tactical officer who pilots a Science vessel. He is skill loaded in star ship operations to improve the BOffs. As far as I can tell most of the profession specific skills have little effect on space combat and more effect on ground.

Well, I'm a Tactical Officer flying an Assault Cruiser, which is an Engineering ship.

Fortunately, some well trained BOFFs are compensating for my lack of engineering skills.

But I guess investing in Tyken's Rift and Gravity Well for my Science BOFF was pointless, since I'll never be able to use those skills.

Using my Tactical Escort, I'll be able to use some of the Tactical Skills I trained my BOFFs in, as long as they don't relate to Torpedos or mines, because I don't use those on that ship.
