The strength the Tsunami hits has something to do with how far it's 'run' is and how deep the water gets along the way. I am sure somebody can explain the anatomy of the kill wave better but as it reaches more shallow water the wave compresses and rises up, gravity does the rest when it hits land.
Length of travel as well as the initial shock add in to the calculation. Its all under the surface, which is why no one can predict its strength. Given the travel length and the initial magnitude of the earthquake, they can only really estimate the WHEN part.
Cuz earthquakes are caused by global warming, I forgot.
I'll tell ya what i do think is funny, I'm watching CNN and to my knowledge this will be the first tsunami shown live on global television as it's happening.
i will almost be dissapointed if it is just a little wave, because so many people will have that image in thier minds when thier area gets a Tsunami warning in the future . Hawaii seems to be handling this super well, so i dont think there will be many casualties
