You know when you take a bunch of people that don't have the same views as the wanted "popular opinion" and you round them all up and confine them to one area....
Many of us realize this was a short term sale and assume prices will go back to match the competitors at the end.
We apprecciate the influx of new players and see nothing wrong with that. Thank you!
No harm, no foul. This is not a slap in the face, it's a bonus. And most of us here got some sort of pre-order bonus. We shouldn't act selfish because others get to enjoy a bonus we may not get.
I was angry when HeadStart was super buggy that I only got to play for a couple hours over the entire period. I paid extra to be in headstart (as in if I had waited until after launch I couldve got a discount)
I was frustrated that my pre-order and DDE bonuses were not available right at launch and even when I got my uniforms they werent complete for a few weeks later. I paid extra for these (DDE)
Im frustrated because I feel I got slighted and never got any compensation. I didnt expect any and didnt feel that I was entitled to them, but I felt it would be nice and good customer service. I didnt hold it against them then.
But now I feel slighted becasue of this sale. Why ? Because I was loyal thru their bungles and got dusty tarnished bonuses for it and others who waited or may have been on the fence to play will get a nice shiny bonus of 2 extra months plus much of the bonuses I got too if they buy the DDE.
Is this selfish ? Well yeah, Im in it for me. Arent you in it for you ? I FEEL angry about this sale more for the timing of it than the sale itself. If this same sale was in effect in June for a week, Id not be mad at all. If it only maybe had 30 extra days I probably would be more MEH about it than GRR.
Nevermind that offering so much free time up front says to me that they view the subscriptions as a low value commodity and dont care about giving them away .. ALREADY ?
This just stinks. I was just talking to Cryptic on the phone, with someone i could hardly understand due to a, what i presume was a German accent. Anyway, they told me they wont give refunds anymore.
This will be the first time in my life that i will use a credit card charge back.
A lot of people already invested in this game, and probably won't leave over this (marketing) issue. What you did do, is convince many of us NOT to invest in your next project. It is difficult for many to people to walk away from a $50 purchase a month after release. It is not difficult to avoid future products. Atari is lumped into this as well.
I now have 2 MMO companies to avoid, SOE and Atatri/Cryptic. Both not for thier product (well maybe a little), but for thier treatment of their customers.
I'm not afraid to say that you would consider me one. I think your demands were unreasonable because you demanded way too much. If the game continues for more than two years, you're out nothing. I think they can still salvage the situation. If they couldn't, I'd agree that you'd been cheated. By then, though, it'd be too late.
Most other Lifetime Subscribers, from what I've read so far, feel they've been out nothing.
What Cryptic did was underhanded, and may well affect your playing experience, but it doesn't do so directly, as it does the rest of us.
I asked for too much? I gave them options and said anyone or a combination would be fine.
They could simply have offered an in-game item that would cost them the same zip zilch nada nothing
they want me to swallow.
I think it might be lawsuit time. If the game fails and that failure has a causal link to their operations, then I don't think it is a stretch for a Judge/Jury to find them culpable and negligent.

In essence, I'll just re-post my initial statement about this debacle as I no longer want to attempt to read all the posts referring to what's going on (much less all the back and forth flaming, trolling, and just plain ugliness that is rampantly transpiring). However, I simply want a definitive answer to what Cryptic or Atari is going to do in response to their customers' dissatisfaction.
For me personally, I do not mind the price reduction of the main product. In truth, I have also suffered buyer's remorse in buying the collector's edition for the lack of what actually came with it and the continued inability to use some of the in game "bonuses." However, this kind of thing happens often so I can suck it up. It more concerns me about the state of the game as I can foresee STO being call SWG: Resurrected.
My primary frustration lies with the extra free 60 days of game play that newer subscribers are apparently receiving. The advertisement says, "Limited time double bonus! Buy Star Trek Online PC-DVD before 9pm PST on Wed March 3rd and get $10 off and extra 60 days free!" It does not say purchased between "x" date and March 3rd. To me, we all bought the game before March 3rd, so we should all receive the extra 60 days.
If we don't, I honestly feel that those of us who pre-ordered or bought at launch are being treated unfairly. If that is indeed the case, I feel almost as if those of us that had faith in the product, Cryptic, or Atari are being forced into paying for the others who were more reserved or skeptical's right to play for free. Yes, I know unfairness abounds in life, but we as customers/consumers have the right to voice our opinions about the product and to demand a refund or some other form of compensation. And if the company refuses to do so - or do so to the satisfaction of all of us - then we, of course, have the right to discontinue service and choose to boycott the company and all of its subsidiaries.
This is not something I want to do. So far, I have enjoyed the game and have done so since open beta even weathering the glitches, down times, and the various and sundry issues that have gone on since I first logged on. I, in my past, have enjoyed other Cryptic titles and I have even been a long time subscriber to CoH/CoV. But this issue and their response have given me pause, particularly with the treatment of many of the people posting on this forum. I am personally on the line right now. I have yet to discontinue service, though if "the powers that be" do not compensate us with an additional free 60 days (i.e. if I get charged for subscription in the next few days), the first month I pay will be the last month I pay - now and forever - with any other Cryptic or Atari product. There are too many other MMOs, other games, and game manufacturers out there for any of us who feel that we are being mishandled to do otherwise.
But I will wait, patiently, until a specific action is taken by those in charge.

At this point I am not going anywhere, I have a lifetime and hope in that time frame they make a game we all deserve, but I agree I will never buy another game from Cryptic, havent yet decided about Atari as a whole.
We understand that some of you are upset about the current sale on Atari.com. There are a number of threads on the forums about this, which is making it very difficult to find information about anything else on these forums. Due to this, we are closing all other threads regarding this matter. We do value your feedback on this, matter however, and would appreciate it if you would post your feedback regarding this matter here, in this thread. All other threads regarding this will be closed.
Thanks,
Phoxe
