# 1 Crew damage issues

A few patches ago I read in the patch notes that the damage to crew done by small ships (i.e. Bird of Prey) was too high and larger ships were not doing any.

I never payed attention before reading that but I have been watching it since. Bird of Prey and other frigate size ships still seem to do way more damage to crew than Battleships and Cruisers. Even considering there are 3 of them in most cases they do 5 - 10 times the crew damage (both injury and death) than the larger ships and in a remarkable short period of time too.

I think your formula is still somewhat off and needs to be looked at again.

I notice my crew getting damaged far too easily. Even when shields are completely up I can lose 1/4 of my crew in the first volley of torpedoes.

I've been noticing this as well. It has gotten better since that particular patch, but it still feels off to me. The three-frigate fights do seem to do more crew damage in the initial volley than other fights. Part if it may just be the fact that they start a fight with three volleys of High Yield Torpedo II while other fights are versus only one ship and you only face one HYT II volley.

I have considered the fact that 3 frigates shooting torpedos is gonna do more crew damage than just one ship. I still think the formula is off and they are doing to much crew damage. My Heavy Escort makes fast work of those 3 frigates but still ends up with half my small crew dead and the other half injured.

Oh, I agree. My Star Cruiser's crew can be down by 50% after one of those 3-frigate fights. It was just information I had noticed that might help the developers track down the issue. I'm not really a fan of the crew level to begin with to be honest. It is simply a third health bar that can be used to cripple ships when taking the others out isn't feasible. Plus, since it is supposed to be cruisers' "thing" versus the other ship types, it doesn't really seem to provide much of a benefit at all when those crew levels get decimated so quickly.

Maybe it's just cruisers crew that is bugged? I have the same issue also, perhaps bleedthrough is bugged so that the 10% damage counts as a full hull hit for the purposes of crew injuring/killing maybe? I don't know but yeah, shields up and losing very large amounts of crew a lot of the time to small ships (cardassians/jemhedar) torpedos

And when you add to it that this will likely be the core in game mechanic for the upcoming "Death Penalty" (it is what the devs have pretty much said would be the penalty since CB) you should be far more worried. If this is not corrected, and is the Death Penalty mechanic, you are looking at having your ship crippled while your shields are still at 90% and your hull is sitting there at 98% looking happy.

"Sorry Admiral. I don't know what happened. My shields never dropped and we never had a hull breach but 75% of my 500 person crew was killed by the 3 Birds-Of-Prey. Uh, no sir....we dispatched all three vessels in around 20 seconds. Yes sir. 20 seconds. Correct sir. What time did you say my courts martial was set to begin?"

I'm way cool with a Death Penalty related to crew loss. But only if crew loss is realistic.

Agreed, 3 frigate fights can easily drop me to 60% crew in their opening volley with full shields and resists up.
