03-03-2010, 06:00 AM
I am looking to see if anyone is currently developing any add-ons for what is being hailed as the best MMO of all time.

If you are developing can you please post a link to your website.

Not much need for any addons right now. Some UI modification would be nice. And an addon that tells me not to turn with my cruiser because it's only a [curseword] battery...

Just some add-on that would help to prevent me from having to stop playing due to impending carpal tunnel syndrome....

Your itemscore is to low. You're a noob!

That's the latest thing in WoW. Just heard it from a friend. I actually stopped playing it over a year ago and don't even regret that decision.

Interface mods would be a nice addition. I don't have enough space to cover all abilities.

you think that Cryptic are going to allow access to their proprietary code by releasing a developers kit and give access to API? I think you might be in for a long wait.

id like to know cryptics stance on client side modding. will someone with modded texture or ui files be banned on server check for file integrity?

Making a blanket statement to not have any addons based on the dislike of a single addon is pretty harsh. There are many mods out there which have been nothing but a benefit to players. Addons like deadly boss mod and outfitter to name two.

Also even the particular addon you dislike has its good points and I find it slightly unfair that bad behaviour by players is allowed to affect a mod so much. I mean there will always be bad behaviour in MMO's so why lose the good points behind the dps meter.

Some bosses in wow require a certain level of acheivment in DPS to kill the boss. A DPS meter can tell you everything you need to know to improve your DPS as it has detailed breakdown charts in all the key areas. Now to confirm I 100% agree that abusing DPS meters is a very bad thing but as this is gonna happen anyway I dont think we should lose the benefits of addons.

As for the OP I beleive that Cryptic has not opened up its game to modders so it is currently impossible to create them without breaking the EULA. I would like to see it opened though as ive already experienced sections of the game that would benefit from addons.

One major one for me would be an outfitter style mod, from wow, it stored a set of armour, spec and action bars allowing you to switch on the fly at the click of a button. In this game it could save a certain set of bridge officers, your skill bars and your gear so you can easily switch from an escort to a cruiser for example.

as a long time wow player i thought it was completely stupid to add such addons that would allow people to read data such as dps, threat etc because it ruined the game. idiots would look at your threat meter if you were a tank and tell the gm of a guild if they wanted you in their raid or not, there was no more comrodery of players in guilds it was all just numbers to these people and nothing more.

now ui mods i like, making things a little more friendly and customizable for the players is an awesome idea. i would love to see that but that should be the limit of what cryptic should allow to be moded on this game lest it become nothing more then a numbers fest.

totally agree that was a good move to leave since thats all anyone cares about anymore in the game.
