I think a lot about how Cryptic might be able to add interesting PvP content to the Klingons (and thus the Feds) without too much effort. Yes, I would love an epic game changing universe encompassing wargame which has endless gameplay and makes all of the Cryptic employees rich beyond their wildest dreams, but I understand that this sort of thing takes time and Cryptic might not be interested in becoming fabulously rich and famous, like rock stars, only better.

So we have to think about more immediate content additions.

What about this:
Spontaneous PvP, Left4Dead style.


Klingon side:
One of the queues you can enter is the "Spontaneous Queue" (or "On Demand" or "KDF Emergency Response" or whatever we want to call it). It's just another PvP queue. When the queue pops up, it will say something like, "There has been an emergency distress call from MISSION_SYSTEM_NAME. Can you assist?"

Fed side:
Anytime you join any PvE mission against Klingons, you can choose the difficulty:
  • Easy
  • Normal
  • Hard
  • Hard+PvP
  • Expert
  • Expert+PvP

If you choose an option with "+PvP", the following rules apply:

1) If you die or leave the mission, it will completely reset, all progress will be lost.
2) Klingon players will get invited into your mission as bad guys. Klingon players who are killed can be resurrected by allied players (if it's ground PvP) but they cannot respawn. They have one shot to beat you.
3) Mission rewards are doubled if any Klingon players show up. If the Klingons kill you, they get the same mission reward that you would have gotten.
4) If the Klingons fail, they get nothing. If you fail, you get nothing.


Klingon spawn in locations will randomly take the place of some existing filler NPC.

Since Klingons are getting help from NPCs, they wouldn't be invited on a 1:1 ratio with the Feds. I'm thinking something like 2 Feds per 1 Klingon, or 2 levels of Feds per 1 level of Klingons. (e.g., a solo Level 40 Fed might face two level 20 Klingons? Or four level 10 Klingons?)



With this idea, Cryptic already has the content -- the PvE mission maps -- and it's just a matter of figuring out how to let Klingons in on it with a proper spawn location.

I too thought this would be a neat idea, but not necessarily for missions, the very scripted nature of them could allow bad klingon players to possibly grief. I was thinking something like a starcluster, that is open to both factions, and automatically pits klingon and federation players against each other in the missions would work better.

Yeah, I think it would be a shoo-in for the Star Cluster missions, at least. Although really any standard non-scripted "go in, shoot everything and click the blinkies" type quest would work. Like Starbase 24 has that mission at the starbase which is just a straight ground combat mission. There's no reason you couldn't slip a real Klingon player or two into it.


I'd just really like to see some type of spontaneous PvP. Basically be wandering around, shopping for shields on the exchange or something and get a call to either go help another player or at least jump in for the KDF to join some NPCs already battling the Federation.

This canned PvP is just losing its freshness.


(How awesome would it be if the Photonic Fleet or Security Escort powers could actually have a chance to bring in another player for a limited time?)

It'd be a nice twist for PvE/PvP hybrid missions that a player can try to get into, with better rewards. I like the idea.

It'd be like Kirk's Enterprise patrolling the Neutral Zone border looking for some hotshot Bird of Prey that's been blasting Fed outposts.

Yeah! Great idea! Don't know about the ground stuff that would be more difficult to implement. But I bet there are certain mission it would work on.

But the idea of having say Starbase 24 type missions as Difficulty: Hard, and just adding live Klingons to the mix is awesome. Obviously there would need to be a numbers cap so that the Klinks cant have more ships (since they will have huge mobs to hide behind) then feds. On single player missions you could have 1 for 1 obviously.

This is such a great idea I doubt it will be seriously considered.

Best of all would be to sub players in for NPCs, and not reveal that they're players!

Re-title it and pass this along to your developer buddies . . . this is a good idea and I too would like to see it.

I'm not sure I agree with you're ideas on levels and rewards but any sort of hybrid PvE + PvP would be great! I'd even support taking a standard PvP map, capture and hold especially and just adding in random spans from both factions.
