lately I've gone into deep space encounters in the syrius block and have been confronted by uber ships that pulp me in a second.

Im working up my alt and am at lt6, last night was the worst, every instance was sheer hell, spawn in and get hammered

tonite im flying with a couple guys doing well clearing the mobs as per usual, then the lead ship goes full imp into another group and vanishes in a puff of plasma and the mob quickly skids back to its origin point (not used to seeing that).
I head in and my foreward shield is gone in about 2 seconds, im at 50% hull before I can even come about, and this is in a miranda. this was a single klink escort and 2 BoPs. we were my miranda and 2 cruisers that had up until now been mopping the deck with the klink mobs. from that point on everything in the instance was invunrable to us

switched instances and all was well again.
whats going on? is a RA5 instance hopping in the n00b sectors to grief the instances?

I was in there the other day and there were several groups of admiral-level enemies floating around the fringes. But I remember seeing the same thing a few weeks ago when I first started. Check their level before swooping in on them...that's about the only advice I can give.

Also, watch for the group that has the Flagship and its escorts in it, it tends to be NASTY even when correct level.

I've had this happen to me three or four times, though not in the last week or so. Yeah, definitely check the level before you begin your attack run.

so wait, now the DSEs have variable level mobs?
wtf happened to the instances scaling to the players in the instance?

I still think high level players are borking the instances by joining and leaving again.

I'd love to see some official word on just how the encounter mechanic works, because something is not quite right here

What happens is if a RA5 or anyone who is higher rank for that DA, the baddies are spawned at the higher ranked toons level. I went in a DA once just for some easy kills in the sirius sector, just to play, and all of them were my level, but the other players were still Lt Commanders.

I'm shocked that this is not recognized as an exploitable situation.

When I was in the other night a total of 10 instances were listed in the browser, all were running RA mobs, lower level players were unable to do these missions until the timers ran out.

so a situation exists where a determined higher level player can literally render all instances unplayable for lower level players and nobody sees a problem with this?

This has been a regular "feature" of DSEs for a long time now...

See, one of the fastest ways to level up is by repeating those Defend the Sector Block missions, and jumping between instances instead of waiting for it to reset. I feel this was done to frustrate players trying to use that strategy. Because it makes that stage harder to clear. :p

The Problem is that it penalizes other players, and ruins those DSEs. And, partially because some players complain the game is "too easy", I think the Devs have decided to keep this feature. At least until enough players complain... or quit.

I mean think about it for a sec. If STO was doing really well would Atari be having a "fire sale" on their DDE version of this game? Now, please!, don't get me wrong... I'm not suggesting people quit! I wish I knew how to get more of my friends to play. But the Devs seem to listen to all the Wrong People on these forums. And they make stupid moves like this, based on the demands of a 'vocal minority'. And all you can do, it seems, is come here and complain yourself in the hopes the Devs will listen to you for a change.

Personally, I don't do DSEs anymore. I'd rather do Explore missions where I can at least fight mobs my level. Instead of frustrate myself fighting things +15 - +25 to me... The Devs are just lucky I don't live close enough to arrive at the curb outside their offices with a megaphone. Or I'd really tell them what I think.

well I guess that makes sense since the last time I played DSE there were considerably fewer admirals out there so I'd be less likely to notice the offset. but this has got to be one of the worst instances of "shot yourself in the foot" I've ever seen.

god forbid the devs would put rank limits on n00b sector instances.
yeah, we're sorry RAs have nothing to do, but must the rest of us miss out because power gamers are bored?

I apologize! I should not have just complained without making a suggestion as to how this situation could be improved... So here it goes:

I favor allowing all players to have access. But not all players should be rewarded for participation in DSEs. I'm pretty sure all of these "Defend the Sector Block" missions have intended level ranges. Keep the NPC you encounter within the level range for that sector.

But limit the experience and drops one gets for participating. Specifically, If a player is more than one Rank above the "intended level" then they should get "No Experience" and "No Drops". This type of system won't allow players to 'power level' their friends.

They should still keep the 30 minute timer for completing a series of three encounters. But it should eliminate the scenario where bored Admirals hop into a DSE and mess that instance up for everyone else.
