# 1 Patrols, endless patrols
03-06-2010, 04:28 PM
I've been stuck at Commander 4 for 3 days. All I have in my missions are patrols and explorations, which I can't stand to do. Kill 5 ships, over and over and over again.

So, I've been roaming around the galaxy trying to help people redo actual missions like Doomsday, but for the most part I don't get credit for redoing the missions.

Am I missing something? Am I just supposed to grind on patrols until I reach captain? The only other non-patrol mission is the CE which I've given up on and a few neutral zone war zone stuff.

Did anyone else experience this?

I hate patrols because I keep getting open instanced with useless people.

What is the last episode you completed?

After you finish with the Klingon Front (Doomsday Device), Quinn should send you to SB 114 to deliver a specialist to SB 39 to start the Romulan Front series; with the usual sector patrols and a few exploration and sector block defense missions, these should see you most of the way to Captain. (I was Commander/9 when I finished.

The point which you can get some missions is based on level. If you level up to Com 5, you will prolly get the breadcrumb quest for the Romulan sectors. This gets worse at high levels by the way, eventually you will run out of both episodes and patrols and will have to grind a few exploration or pvp matches, welcome to STO.

The last big admiral who gave me new missions was T'nau or something like that

Well, I find the patrol missions boring and have not done a single one since the game went live. The trade off is I rotate between Explore Clusters/Nebulae and PVP. You level very fast if you pick up the quests for these too...you get credit for completing the map and for the total quest. But yes, somewhere along the line you have to choose which you want to do. Cycling through helps though, not just doing one type over and over.

Indeed, i often found when i ran out of episodes and patrols that one pvp match could get me a third of a level. HOWEVER, I DONT RECOMMEND THIS because you reach the end of the game faster, where there is NOTHING to do but pvp and exploration, oh, and that crappy half assed ground combat episode that calls itself a raid.

To be fair, there are a couple incredibly well done patrols in comparison to the rest. I cant remember exactly which ones, but i recall on at least 2 occaisions thinking that the guy who wrote/scripted that patrol should be made the lead quest developer, and all the rest of them fired.

Might want to look over <http://stowiki.org/wiki/List_of_missions#Romulan_Front> to see where you might be able to pick up the Romulan episodes.
