Who gives a rats @$$ about the Academy Awards anyway?
Its just the Hollywood Elite sucking and stroking each other off and making a show out of it.

We know the fight, Hurt Locker vs Avatar

Small budget content rich flick vs Large budget special effects flick

Real story writing with human intrest and a sense of drama induced not by the whiz bang guys a the 3DFX lab

And the winner is ... yup Content over Flash Whizz Wii generation

Analogies to STO quite frankly astound me
If you consider that proof...I would cancel my subsciption right now, bash my computer in and then rig it with spatial charges.

Hurt Locker was merely the "taboo subject of the year" winner because no holocaust films were around.

*Edit - PS: Inglorious Basterds is not based on true events :p

Gross taking are not an indicator of the films quality,
Exhibit A - District 9, the best sci fi movie of the decade - original and a real story
Exhibit B - Star Wars 1 TPM JAR JAR BINKS

TPM may have grossed more than D9 but D9 is the superior film

that is all

First, the concept of quality is subjective. Second, the 6,000 voters who determine the Oscar winners means nothing to the millions who vote with their dollars every single day. On the world-stage The Hurt Locker is a loser.

:cough: :cough: Basterds?

Ans Avatar had far more political content than Locker, is there any moralising in HL, nope whereas you get all that hand wringing in Avatar (which by the way is more holocaustic than any other film out this season)
