That's thanks to DS9, you'll also notice that whenever the Romulans and Klingons mentioned the threat of the Dominion, they too only talked about the "Alpha Quadrant" even though their respective empires aren't in it. Earth has always been on the border of the Beta Quadrant and a large amount of federation space is located there.

Consider - most of Europe is east of the Prime Meridian... but we still refer to Europe as belonging to the Western Hemisphere. Same with Alpha/Beta quadrants.

that's mostly because the Bajoran wormhole is pretty much smack-dab in the centre of the Alpha quadrant, and even though the Klingons and romulans dont have a big presence there (they have some systems, k's more then r's), it makes sense that if the entire Alpha Quadrant fell (that's mostly starfleet, Talaran, Tzenkethi, Cardassian), that the Beta quadrant would fall next. Why make a stand in your own back yard when you can make one in your neighbours?

You read it wrong.
Gamma Orionis isn't in the gamma quadrant, that's just its name. It's actually south of the west end of Klingon space, near the alpha/beta border. The Mutara Nebula and Regula 1 research station were there - it used to be Federation-settled space. And now the Borg have eaten it.

Kinda concerning in a way, Gamma Orianis was one of the "inner" sector blocks of the federation, not even on the fringe of the UFP, and it's been borged... Gotta wonder what happened to all the other sectors between the Delta Quadrant and there which used to be federation too...

ok, first off, you bumped a two year old thread.

But no, the map is correct here, there is not supposed to be a Cardassian/Romulan Border, they are on opposite sides of the federation.

Like, no way man! They are like, giving back to the galaxy, recycling all that waste into cool and heavy threads. Groovy.

Oh wow, like, now I got the munchies.

Repeated system names?

They even mention this in the Tau Dewa sectors "archer system".
