# 1 My "Coming out" story
03-12-2010, 12:13 PM
So today, I sat down at my desk in Technical Support for a security company and discovered one of my coworkers left me a blue shirt. I'm one of the first in the building in the morning, so they must have left it late yesterday. I opened it up and held it up to the light and realized this was no ordinary blue shirt, it was a fine Star Trek uniform. After exclaiming with glee, I put it on, and decided "well, this is just too cool a gift, and since I don't know who gave it to me, I'll just wear it and try to find out."

Everyone in the office suspected I was a closet Star Trek fan, but now they know. My CEO walked by and laughed at me. My boss rolled his eyes. His boss thought it was a Star Wars uniform. /sigh. The girls in Customer Service laughed REALLY hard. My friend in Marketing who also secretly likes Star Trek was thrilled, I thought it was her but it wasn't! Information Support laughed at me (they didn't admit to giving it to me either, and they are all closet Star Trek fans).

So now, I, a nerd in a nerdy job who spends his lunch breaks on nerdy web sites (such as this one), have now "come out". I'm a Star Trek fan, and I'm proud of it!

So dear reader, are you a closet Trek fan? Or have you come out? Tell me your "Coming out" story!

I'm not sure I ever was in the closet.

I have friends from 20 years back who made fun of people like us...turns out that the very same people LOVE Star Trek. Don't be ashamed! Embrace it...just don't wear a uniform shirt way too tight for you and go to a convention and have your picture taken....not good.

What is this "Closet" you speak of? Seriously, this is the year I told my students about Star Trek and even used the Deluxe Collectors edition box of STO to illustrate several economics principals.

Everyone knows I am a nerd. An extreme nerd. If my +1 Shirt didn't do it then my My-Hime costume I wear like normal clothes did.

The OP was afraid of the Jocks and their dreaded Swirlie Machine.

I have never feared to admit I enjoy The Trek.

But...I am not one of those that will wear a full blown costume...but I do have several trek related pins.

I don't own any Trek apparel, but my wife does have a TNG hat with a combadge, and a TNG T-shirt....but she never wears it.
