# 1 Warping through planets?
03-13-2010, 09:37 AM
Noticed that I can turn the ship to look at a planet and I will warp away through it! Would be great if the ship automatically turned to the nearest 'clear space' when I click 'depart system' and then warp away.

I agree. However, I imagine it could unleash a whole new set of bugs...

Or you could think that since the ship is traveling in a subspace bubble, the ship can fly thru the planet because the bubble phases the ship into another layer of space while in flight

I was showing my bro this game and that was the first thing he saw,he said, "You just rammed through a planet" and walked away. He will not be playing STO.

Basic warp mechanics negates this line of thinking. Maybe if the ship was equipped with a Phased Cloaking Device, a la USS Pegasus, it would make sense. Besides, the warp field doesn't shift a ship into subspace.

If warp mechanics did work like this, a ship would be able to travel at warp without having to operate the navigational deflector dish.

Edit: Oh, and personally, I just do the whole manual turn thing as well. Then again, I'm also one of those that flies into an RDD when approaching Earth Space Dock...

Yes, I can totally see how this would be a game breaker for most people.
