^ This.

MMOs make their money off recurring subscription fees, not the box sale (like a single player/console game). If lowering the box price gets more recurring subscriptions, it's a good thing. Regardless of what the Tin Foil Hat Brigade wants people to think.

Also here, where all Atari games are 40-50% off: http://www.gamersgate.com/offers

How long before we see the price slashed to $19.95?
when they mailed out the survey, when the question how much STO should cost I chose the $19.99 from the list of prices
Looks like alot of people probabley did the same as me.

I did the same, STO is a great $19.99 game. It not unusual for games to drop in price after release, some faster than others. I picked up a copy of LOTRO for $7.77 at target about 3 months after release, that game is doing fine.

I welcome the new players, that waited for the price point to come to then and miss the launch issues.

I would be really depressed to see this game selling at $19.95, a price reserved for the worst of worst, or for a good 2 year-old game.
You would have a valid point if ALL RETAILERS were doing that - the fact that it's only one, running a propmotion knocks holes in your theory.

I still see STO retailing for $49.95 in plenty of places, including on Steam. Son't confuse promotional sales with a "price cut" at retail - after the 31st the D2D price will be right back where it was.

Under your rationale, something like DowII:CHaos Rising failed before it was even released, just because Steam offered $5.00 off on a preorder. it was a price cut, right?

Amazing to what lengths people will go to to see failure - or generate it, by constantly giving a poor portrayal of something when it isn't warranted. It's as if they WANT the thing to fail, just to vindicate themselves.

I've thought about it here and there, but using Steam these days instead... is there a reason that D2D are below Par?

$9.95 would be great then I could just buy the game every month and save on the monthly subscription.
