The fact is that we all know that cruisers and science vessels serve clearly defined purposes in combat. One is great for tanking the other for buffs.

But the fact is that for space missions they are pretty much pointless for their general roles as ships.

By definition a cruiser is a large ship that can carry lots of cargo and evacuate/support a planet in it's time of need.

By definition science vessels should be great for science-y stuff. Like researching and maybe creating special mods for weapons.

But the fact is that day in and day out every space mission involves blowing the enemy ships out of the water so to speak.

We never get space missions that involve you needing to ferry evacuees from a planet where the large cargo bays of a cruiser can be utilized.

or a mission where we need to do some sort of research gathering which would be right up the alley of a science vessel.

Day in and day out it's always blowing up enemy ships which is what escorts are built for primarily.

Sure we get to fulfill our secondary functions as tanks/ buffers.

But we never get missions that can exploit our abilities.

There should be pvp maps where maybe you need to transport cargo, or do research on a supernova and those ships would be perfect.

At no fault of their own, the escort will always be able to serve it's primary function which is to move fast and blow up enemy ships.

But cruisers were built for moderate exploration and general purpose abilities, while science vessels were built in order to research stuff.

I have yet to get a mission that exploits my cruiser's size.

Im not angry, but the fact is that every trekky here has realized that trek isnt always about blowing the crud out of enemy ships, by its credo "to explore new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before", forgive me if I am wrong but it seems right now our credo is
"to blow up the first thing that moves"

I want to do some exploration, some research, after the dozens of missions we have all done, in reality it just seems like the exact same thing over, and over, and over again.

And while yes you can explore uncharted space, it just does not feel the same.

So in my opinion cryptic should stop giving us the same missions, we have got the combat missions right now, they did an awesome job with that, nobody is denying that, but right now we need some more science and general purpose missions.

The moment they give us those this will be a true star trek game.

Be patient. They're coming. Cryptic is introducing a diplomacy system, which will include new missions.

Just, be patient.

Thanks for letting us know you think escorts are overpowered in the pve role and the other classes need a buff.

You need to give the game time, Every MMO that surrounds itself with something like Star Trek which is just as much about space battles as it is about bettering mankind will build its foundation on the space battles first. Why? because it brings in revenue. More then just the fans will flock to STO if they know they get to destroy things. But with time Cryptic will add the needed Diplomacy system. People need to stop expecting things right this second. Everyone can see the game should of taken another year of development. But thats hindsight and we have to work with what we got. If we really like this game and hope for it to stick around. We need to work on where we can improve things.

There is of course, some difficulty with creating the kind of missions you want to see. If a mission requires a cruiser, how then do you satisfy those who do not have a cruiser for their ship? If they restrict certain missions to certain classes or character types, then we are in for more complaining on these forums.

At the moment every vessel can carry out every mission, so no-one is forced to follow a particular path in the game. The problem facing Cryptic is how to create specialised missions that still allow players to partake in the bulk of content.

Thats a good point aswell. Every ship in StarFleet is supposed to be cappable of a number of different situations. Humanitarian, Scientific, and Peacekeeping/War.

As i see it Escorts are good for taking down single targets, as soon as i have a 3-5 ships mob in front of me i need to fly back and by the third ship my skills are all on cooldown (ok Lt. Cmdr. doesnt have that much skills to begin with). But is harder the more ships you have to fight alone.

With my Galaxy class i take down mobs of 5+ Ships shoot in every direction and dont need to care about my 50 man crew getting slaughtered by secondary explosions of dead ships. Clearly it is another playstyle.

Playing a Cruiser is just as easy as Escort... i would rather say that Escorts have weaker hull & repair and therefore are more likely to die faster in battle.

Did not play Science until now.

PS: difficulty slider next month will change everything up so dont cry doom yet.
I plan on rerolling again when Death Penalty and Difficulty slider are there, should be a little more fun if the enemy Ships are more then cattle.

There is no honor in killing enemies that cant fight back.

Escort is like hard mode. Sure you deal a lot of damage, but your shields fall really fast. Especially when, at Lt. Commander, most of your firepower is probably on your front 45 degree arc. Your front shields won't take that much abuse.
