# 1 Need a name for your Starship?
03-21-2010, 06:21 PM
After much thought over a good and legitimate name for my ship I decided to take on the name Hornet, since that was the name of a real life ship that served with the real life Enterprise. I thought, however, that this name wasn’t exactly the catchiest of names. So, to help out people in the STO community who are having issues with a good ship name, I have come up with this little list.

The list is divided first by the class of ship that I feel the name best suits. This is by no means to start flaming over whether or not the names suit the class or are good at all. Only a suggestion for what class fits best in my opinion. Then they are inserted alphabetically. All names are also only 15 characters or less.
Not all of these names are entirely original. Some are taken from real life, other sci fi series, or are plays on these names. In no way am I trying to say anything about those other series, I only feel the names were good and appropriate ship names.

I hope you all enjoy them and please comment if you like, dislike, or would like to add your own.

Good idea, I'll help you out! I had a tradition in game of using Halo ship names because of their sheer creativity.

USS Spirit Of Fire(My Excalibur class)
USS Do You Feel Lucky?
USS Sacred Promise
USS Lance Held High
USS High Charity
USS Bloodied Spirit
USS Shadow Of Intent
USS Triumphant Declaration
USS Say My Name
USS Prophecy
USS Leviathan
USS Everest
USS Hannibal
USS Pillar of Autumn
USS Dawn Under Heaven
USS All Under Heaven
USS Musashi (my T1)
USS Stalingrad
USS Two For Flinching
USS Bunker Hill
USS Coral Sea
USS Callisto
USS Pious Inquisitor
USS Harbinger Of Piety
USS Ascendant Justice

Unfortunately a lot of these names are too long to be used...still cool though.

Thanks! and I agree with the Halo ship names. I based several of my names off of them. The length issue is why I used 15 Characters or less. I wish it were a lot longer. Seems to me on ships hundreds and hundreds of meters long they could write a name more than 15 or so character long.

These are the ones I used for my characters thus far. Seeing I'm only using my Tier 5 science vessel, I figure the other ships coud use new captains. Also note that the names I used have certain ties to the class names as well, so they are best used with them.

T1
Prospero => Miranda-class
Kir'Shara => Shikahr-class
Pegasus => Centaur-class

T2
Bedivere => Excalibur-class
Hesperus => Vesper-class
Gladius => Rapier-class
Murasaki => Quasar-class

T3
Esperanza => Hope-class
Meridian => Stargazer-class
Santee => Dakota-class
Uller => Oslo-class

T4
Atlantis => Discovery-class
Magellan => Galaxy-class

T5
Sedna => Luna-class

Yeah you'd think. Heck you could probably write a whole poem on the Galaxy class saucer if you put forth the effort. Who knows though; maybe Cryptic will take heed of this, it seems like a simple fix compared to some of the other problems in the game.

Just for fun, these are ships I've used:

1. USS Musashi
2. USS Spirit Of Fire
3. USS Evangelion
4. USS Amadeus (originally Bloodied Spirit)
5. USS Lady Justice (Assault Cruiser)/ USS Doc Holiday (Science)/ USS Stardust Memory (Escort)

I personally would love to see someone named something like USS Goldspammer or something, especially in PVP lol.

A lot of the names listed here would earn the person who named their ship that a good thumping if I had anything to say about them. I am a bit of a traditionalist however.

I think I'll throw my hat into the ring with a list of names for each tier. Now, I am a MAJOR fan of the Mobile Suit Gundam Franchise, so the names all come from there.

Here we go:

T1:
Dagger (I used this one)
Zaku
Leo
Aries
Taurus
Tragos
Pisces
Cancer
GINN
Astray
Hizack

T2 Escort:
Murasame (I used this one)
Gelgoog
Gouf
Dom
Virgo
Nemo
Marasai
Barzam
Jegan

T2 Cruiser:
Salamis
Musai
Drake
Nelson
Laurasia
Gamow

T3 Escort:
Exia (I used this one)
Dynames
Kyrios
Virtue
Hamrabi
Zeta
Strike
Dauntless
Raven
Guardian
Aegis
Resolute
Surge
Buster
Blitz
Duel
Wing
Deathscythe
Heavyarms
Sandrock
Shenlong
Tallgeese
Shining
Maxter
Rose
Dragon
Bolt

T3 Cruiser:
Chivvay
Zanzibar
Magellan
Agamemnon
Nazca

T4 Escort:
Tempest (I used this one)
Cherudim
Arios
Seravee
Seraphim
Qubeley
Double Zeta
Freedom
Faith
Justice
Conviction
Providence
Impulse
Chaos
Gaia
Abyss
Spectre
Savior
Wing Zero
Deathscythe Hell
Altron
Epyon
Burning
Rising

T4 Cruiser:
Angel
Vesalius
White Base
Argama
Peacemillion
Libra

T5 Escort:
Nu Gundam
Sazabi
Strike Freedom
Sincerity
Infinite Justice
Akatsuki
Destiny
Legend

T5 Cruiser:
Archangel
Eternal
Nahel Argama
Ra Cailum
Minerva
Gondwana

And that's the list of ship names from Gundam I can think of off the top of my head. The T1 Names and Escort Names all came from Mobile Suits (better MS for higher Tiers [T3 starts into the names of individual Gundams]) while the Cruiser Names all come from warships.

What do you all think?
