Well, that's very wiley.

My ships, few as they are, are the USS Fizzgig (Not a tribble, thank you very much), and the USS Flasherman. I think my next ship may well be called the USS Hawkings

I'm into astronomy, so I named all of mine after stars

Deneb
Capella
Megrez
Procyon
Regulus
Arcturus

With one exception, the U.S.S Galileo

I've been using the names of historic people of significance that are in some way applicable to the Captain of the ship.

Audie Murphy was the most decorated US soldier in WW2, and did some pretty amazing things. So my escort is named after him.

Ayn Rand was a big proponent of reason, objective reality, and personal productivity, so my Vulcan engineer gets the U.S.S. Ayn Rand. The irony of a ship named after Ayn Rand in the quasi-socialist world of Star Trek amuses me.

Alan Turing was a brilliant mathematician and computational theorist, so my Vulcan scientist gets that one.

All names are also chosen for their "ring". They just have to sound right.

Hahaha before you mentioned how you like the irony of the Ayn Rand, I thought to myself that Starfleet would probably not appreciate a ship named after her and I laughed.

I generally draw names from the middle east, both contemporary and pre-islamic.. I also tend to use vague terms related to all three Abrahamic religions (without getting too specific)... over the course of play since open beta i've had ships named...

Prophet, Prophecy, Archangel, Dubai, Medina, Dajjal, Inanna... and a few more that escape me at the moment..

Some of my family history stems from that part of the world, so I find it rather fascinating...

Well, I'm a Libra, I'm into astrology, so naturally I named my ship the Libra. Fear my originality.

As for my cruiser, the U.S.S. Barrowman, it's named after the guy who plays Captain Jack Harkness on Dr. Who.
