# 1 Cats: Dr. Phlox's secret?

Something for Catstarsto, undoubtedly.

Phlox's medicinal approach was unusual for Trek doctors in that he used a menagerie of critters to help in the healing process.

After seeing this quote posted on Facebook by a cat-owning friend (who failed to name the source), I have to wonder if Phlox keeps a cat handy...just out of the way of Porthos.

Cats use infrasonic sound not only to communicate but also to help other cats recover from injury. Research indicates that bone density, tissue repair, and pain relief occur more rapidly when exposed to infrasonic purring near 20-50 Hz

I imagine that cats provide workable substitutes for the organs of certain denobulan animals used in traditional denobulan medicine.

Cats are indeed very therapeutic. Petting them also lowers the blood pressure, if you get a good, calm cat to be the therapy cat.
