while the yamato class could pwn just about anything, nobody knew how to use it =.=; OR they completely overlooked in in favor of a plane D:
i remember many wake island matchest where i would sit in a battleship and just rack up points via long range bombardment , it's hard to cap a flag when a bomb is dropping on it every 30 seconds.....

Naw, I'm not that scared of subs. The Yamato-class had a pretty exceptional armour, which was unfortunately weaker just below the waterline, making her more susceptible to air-dropped torpedoes than those launched underwater.

The Shinano basically fell victim to design flaws which I suppose were part of the conversion from "partially completed battleship" to "sort of support carrier" - which caused the Shinano to sink after just four hits, even when it took 19 torpedoes (and a dozen bombs) to sink Musashi.

Damn torpedo bombers. I miss the era of the battleships. So majestic... just look at today's poor excuses of warships.

On that note I also miss zeppelins. Aircraft evolved waaaay too fast.

Waaaaaa! Yes, Wake Island was one of my favorite maps ever! And I did the same thing. Yamato = king of coastal bombardment.

PS: Now I want to play BF1942 again. With you people.

I just reinstalled BF1942 the other day, was feeling nostalgic. Some of the maps crash on me now though. I used to be a dev for the BattleGroup '42 mod as a plane modeler.

Such a shame that many of the old goldies don't run properly on modern machines.

in bf1942 not really, most airfeilds/aircraft carriers only had 2 planes, you could probably get a max of maybe 4 planes in the air ( or 6 if you sneak over to your enemys aircraft carrier and steal his planes) at a time
the yamato has 2 AA gun stations, with 8 aa guns on either side of the boat >.>;

if the yamato crew even knows a little of what they're doing, they can fend off the attack with very little dmg, on the flip side of the planes know what they're doing they could also sink the yamato, but the yamato requires less skill to shoot a plane then a plane squad requires to sink a yamato .....

FIGHTING STEEL !! Campaign.. NOrth Atlantic

convoy raids w Bismarck Tirpitz 15" and fast 8" escort cruisers
Graf Spee Scharnhorst 11 inches.. and the scrapped what if Super Ships Hindenburg 16' guns wow..

The Brits slow WWI and the Bobtail battle wagons Rodney and Nelson Slow.. Such great fun planning convoy escort pools.

I think i had a water line scale model of every IPN cruiser at one time.. and the CV Taihō plus a few specialty submarines including the long range supply and transport that had a plane mounted on it and exchanged runs w the Germans sub tender subs delivering jet engine and rocket prototypes..

the Bismark was weak on AA as the other Axis ships.. poor planning retrofitting and respect for air..

I think Raven was referring more to RL battles - but yes, the Yamato's AA gun barrage in BF42 was very fun and effective.

"POMM POMM POMM POMM!" *fills air with lotsa dark clouds and shrapnel*

The Yamato was very durable, yes - especially when you had an Engineer standing by to repair any damage. Only drawback was that it had zero defence against a sub. Torpedo hits could easily be repaired away - it was just a question of who would run out of ammo earlier ... Engineer or submarine. Usually it was the Engineer.

I've sunk at least one sub with a direct hit from the main cannons too, though. Was a good bit of luck - normally you don't see these bast.ards with their little black pixel periscope sneaking up on you.
