If not, I seriously doubt you are still reading this, so I'm wasting my time typing this line. See you at Fleet 187.
Stormy, thanks much for your response. You know at first I was a little caught off-guard by your response. Maybe just a teeny bit offended? I decided to re-read my post and you're right; it is a little depressing. I wouldn't say it is "oppresive" though.

So I thought about what I said and wondered why I listed so many rules. I have come to the conclusion that I've done so due to the many issues I've come across in the past. You mentioned it yourself. "Games are supposed to be fun, so in my mind there's no room for bad ones." In that light, I think you will clearly understand the reasons for the, shall we say, "guidelines" I've set forth. As I said, my friend and I may never find a Fleet that meets our guidelines to the "T", but I think they can get close and I feel they are out there, somewhere. No, I'm not looking for perfection, nor did I ask for it. Very few guilds do not have issues, but some have more than their share and fail. Others just attract the wrong people altogether.

As for your last comment about reading your whole post; I have. Try not to be so pessimistic. I'm a good guy and I give anyone a chance the same as the next. I'm a "glass half full" kind of guy. Yes, I've been to your site and read through some of it. I did notice one thing, however. My post has the exact same tone as your 187 charter.

So maybe my post is the old guild leader still left in me and I was "laying down the rules" instead of wording it more of a request.

With that said, I'll apologize if my requirements/post came off a little too narrow-minded. My intention is to narrow the focus, though, so that we don't end up guild-jumping, as it were. I think you can appreciate that.

Thanks again,
Vrayel

Thanks for the reply to my post. You know, I think we are more alike than it might appear. My intention was not to be pessimistic, and I put the line in you referred to because I felt sure you were reading it.... if not, I really had no reason to write it! I guess we're back to that written word stuff I mentioned earlier. Haha! In any case, my invitation to visit Fleet 187 stands firm. Will we be a perfect match? Who knows... but one thing I do know. We will never find out unless you pay us a visit. Hope to see you there. And, no, I don't give up easy. That's one reason we have the quality members we do.

Thanks Eldorada, I'll take a look at the site this afternoon. I too was into SWG for a good while, until I was treated badly from CS. Long story though.

In any case, we're still evaluating some great offers, such as yours, and we'll make a decision no later than this weekend. And thank you for taking care in considering my post to ensure a good fit.

Thanks again and we'll be in touch!

The reason we spell all this out is because we are not just looking for a fleet. We are looking for the right fleet. We are not what you call "Guild Jumpers". So, please don't say "Give us a try" or the like. We're not here to try out fleets. We're here to find one that fits our style as best as possible. We may not be successful in doing that, and that is okay. We'll just keep looking.

1. Good leadership. A fleet must be well orchestrated and lead by mature and understanding individuals. Those that ignore thoughts and recommendations of their guild as a whole are not good leaders. This is important to us. You may think you can lead, but somehow not gain the respect of your members. We want the leadership that knows how to gain that respect through actions and very few words. Kindness, understanding, maturity, respectful, willingness to help, etc. are all attributes of great leadership.
2. Mature players. We don't like l33t speak or any level of immaturity, disrespect, or any type of hostility. If you have these types in your guild, your guild is not for us.
3. A method of being able to log a complaint with another member and have it actually taken care of by an officer. Taken care of meaning you've investigated the issue and taken action if necessary.
5. Some level of regularly scheduled events, especially with the STFs available. We have not done any due to the simply reason we don't like PUGs, which are those that have just joined a PUG in hopes of free loot.
6. Ability to help new players. Lack of tolerance with "newbies" is not a good thing and shows a tendancy for being an elitist. We don't like elitists.
7. You actually have a recruiting process, not just sign-here-you're-in types. If you just say "join us!" you're not the fleet for us. I feel the best way to make sure you have good people and the right people is to actually talk to them first and lay down expectations then see for yourself with a trial period before they join. Somehow, as of late, this has gone out the window with tossing out random invites in Sol and the like.
8. You feel the achievement was obtained by the team, not the individual.
9. You have an age requirement, such as "21 and older" for example.
10. Absolutely no sexual discussions of any type.
11. Respectful of a members time regardless of who it is. If you are the leader of an event, start on time, within reason of course. If you are an invited member to an event, be there on time or provide prior reason why you would not be if at all possible.
12. You enjoy just being in a group striving to achieve a goal, not just for the loot. If the only thing you care about is the loot, you're not the guild for us. We feel the fun is with the fight, not necessarily the prize. Planning and working together and being successful is where the fun is at IMO.
13. A good web site with which to communicate outside of the game.
14. Use of Ventrilo or Teamspeak for events.
15. A site calendar indicating when events are scheduled.
16. You do not look down upon any member. Everyone is equal with different roles and responsibilities.
17. You do not publicly admonish anyone whatsoever at any time or place. This is to be done privately, always, unless it absolutely cannot be avoided.
18. You do not throw guilt upon someone for any screwups. (as in pointing the finger or faulting)
19. Casual and Hardcore are both okay.
20. No cliques (it's fine to group with your buddies, but you also spread it around so nobody feels excluded)
21. You provide guidance for gear, not stipulations for gear
22. We are not looking for a role-playing guild. If you support role-playing, that should be confined to a channel of itself.
...and most importantly...
23. You strive to have fun at all times with good people and friends.

About us:

We come from a long line of MMOs. Far too many that I care to admit. We are older, but lets just say we are 30+ and leave it at that. We've both lead guilds before and it's just not for us. Too many personalities to deal with and we're just not good at it. Age and intolerance for morons has done this to us. We learn our class well as we want to be good at what we do. We never claim to be the best, but we strive to be. We're helpful as much as we possibly can. Ask for our opinion/advice and we'll kindly provide that. We like to understand the mechanics of a game and enjoy sharing of knowledge, both ways. We even screw up once in a while. I remember back in '85 that happened once even for me. Maybe it was '86, I can't be sure. We like to poke fun and have fun. We feel it is the people we are with, not what we can get out of it. Methodical planning and refining our skills is all part of the fun as well. We take advice well. We take guidance well. We don't take a leader with a "God" complex very well. We don't take immaturity very well either. Role-playing is fine, but we do not participate in it.

it is important that we feel we want to logon and play the game with people we know and get along with. Existing or growing issues within a fleet is an indication it is ready to fail. We want to be part of a good, growing fleet. We hope and feel we can contribute a lot to that very thing.

We just like to have fun with like-minded people. It is quite that simple.

My characters are...
Ariakis - Engineer/Cruiser (RA5) (T5 crafting Science/Engineering/Tactical)
Brenak - Tactical/Escort (RA5)

Maticai's characters...
Duke - Science/Science (RA5)
Mack - Engineer/Cruiser (C7 I think)

Hi Vrayel

I think you describe my fleet pretty much to the letter with all your points.

If you take a look at our rules you will pretty much find all of your requests in them.

I run an international fleet and I must say I have been lucky with all the new people that has joined so far...
I also have about 10 guys in the Fleet that has been with me since we started playing on Armada 10 years ago.

Feel free to check us out

Oh man, the written word and the many ways it can be construed. If only I had known of these career-altering lessons and not worded an email they way I did years ago. Another long story though. I agree I think we are more alike than we realize.

I think it's becoming clear to me that there is certainly more than one fleet to choose from that would be a good fit. You all are going to make it hard to decide! And all along I thought it was going to be a difficult find.

Well, #10 will be hard to explain on the official STO forum as i think it would approach too close to violating the forum rules. I'll try to stay short of it.

In a past guild, it got so out of hand that it became offensive. We had used a Vent server for all the raids. The guild brought in many, many members. Some of which were...of a different orientation? That should be safe to say, I think. Anyway, they were quite vocal about it and having those conversations heard, verbally, through my PC speakers as my wife walked by...well lets just say I was quite embarassed and even ashamed of the folks I was supposed to be just playing a game with. I don't want that ever happening again as I feel an online game is no place to be discussing the topic, nor is it necessary, with the diversity of people that play them. Thus, it is now a rule of mine and that may, unfortunately, filter out many options for us.

So if you are a guild/fleet that feel people can just say what they want, how they want, when they want with no guidelines, it's probably not what we're looking for.

Oh I should mention we are EST timezone (US). I was in a british guild in *** though and that was quite fun. Somehow they just played at the right time and it worked out great.
