Part 1 - rescue - great!
So the first part of the Big Dig was great, hunt around saving 20 guys, it was fun in that it provided a challenge with both a mix of combat and hunting out the side areas below that are easy to miss.

Part 2 - kill 125 dudes...um, ok if there isn't anything else better to do...

Part 3 - Reclick all the nodes at the locations you visited in Part 1 and then go click the Artifacts

At this point most people were bored and left to do other things so it didn't get completed...

Agreed.

Part 1 was fun. Rescuing the people and working with your team around the dig site was great fun.
Part 2 was eh. Killing 125 people isnt so bad. I mean this sort of makes sense because a little warzone has formed.
Part 3 was WTF!!!!!!!!!! Going around again now that there are a lot more enemies to recover all the shields and protect the artifacts is insane. It took me 2 hours of working and waiting to do this. I would wait for people to cycle in, form a team, go get a sheild or two, they would get bored and quit. Wash rinse and repeat.
Part 4 made sense but by this time Its like Ehhhhhhhhh not more stuff Kill 10 Romulan captains, and 10 Reman captains. Took about 30 minutes, killed roughly 200 people to get 20.

Total time 3 and a half hours.

Total fun 30% If part 3 were gone or much shorter the mission would be repeatable for me.

Good news is though that in total I got almost 3000 skill points. At least it compensates you fairly well. Item I got though was horrible. Common plasma pistol.

Just left the dig -
Find 20 scientists, okay, the place is crawling with enemy though so it's more a constant pew pew than thinking. Then kill 125 romulans, but of course they're spread amongst about 500 other guys who everyone promptly starts to slaughter... not many reading 'chat'' so it took a while to get the message across that only the Romulans counted, so please stop trying to waste all the other guys. (I strongly suspect there's an endless supply of cannon fodder, we massacred them and there were hundreds left at the end still).

I think that's when I started to regret starting this. Eventually got them killed, and - as already noted - go back through trenches heaving with enemy to find 20 boxes, then wade through even more bad guys carrying them (only one per player, by the way, they're 'too heavy' to carry more) to try to plonk them down around a pyramid on multiple levels... and everywhere you look there are gangs of bad guys coming at you.

Nah, this is pants - hours of effort and there's little thought in it, just endless shooting. It doesn't help that it's so long...I gave up after avout 2 hours...people leave the game when they get fed up, others beam in and run around with no apparent idea what they're doing, a co player and I stood by one of the 'generators' in disbelief as the crowd we were with all ran off chasing guards and left the thing we were supposedly looking for behind....

So, it is very repetitive, pretty endless shooting with a huge number of bad guys coming at you, too long by far, and extremely frustrating when you realise out of the whole group playing it hardly anyone is actually doing what they ought to be to win.....to cut a little slack there I guess the action is so relentless that maybe folk don't have the time to think it through. Oh, and the respawn point is a dead end with high walls, so get used to sprinting and hoping you survive the guantlet.

All in my opinion, of course.

I think I saw a dev post that this was a bug and they fixed it with a quick little patch. I could be mistaken though as I dont remember which forum it was in.

We've just spent 45 minutes searching for 2 more of these archaeologists, but couldn't find them, even after going two full circles around the trenches.

In the end, if this is just part 1, then this mission is WAY too long winding to be fun... I don't have half a day to waste on a single mission...

Sorry but the "Dig" is rubbish

this is the best cryptic can put out with all its bravado about this apparently great new addition to STO?

its not even a case of -oh STO needs time to develop

This is a freaking instance for christs sakes,not beta.Who in the blue hell put this out and thought its a worthy edition to STO ?

i spent 3 hours 30+ mins to complete it,and the loot system cryptic has is crap ...you have to bust your ass for 3 + hours to top a score chart to get loot ( and the loot is dire) what kind of loot system is that? ...who wants to bust their ass non stop to get top of THAT table ..3+ hours in that shabby excuse of an instance

Flame me or argue against me if you want,i dont care,just gotta tell the truth,this is WAY below expectations ....no word of cryptic needs time to develop...total BS,its ment to be the FINSIHED article in terms of instances when its released..general gameplay ..ok,that can take time,but this!?!

i mean,cmon guys...a shabby open plan area of no great merit,with EXTREAMLY fast respawns and multiple player respawn points (duh cryptic...only need one ,saves ppl getting lost ,you dont exactly have your own voice application for the casual,random partys...everyone is running around not able to find ppl..even the big map dont show where your party is) so you lose your team within minutes and cant get back to them cos of the freaking rapid respawns that gank you 5 to 7 at a time + a big temple in the middle thats all it is

what happened to a boss fight at the end OR multiple mini bosses on the way through an EPIC map with decent loot...hey,i only say that cos STO is hardly a exploration mmo,its a freaking instance,gearing,leveling then raiding mmo...least they can do it get it right

call it fleet action if you want,or an instance...its a multi player group in a seperate map with objectives,that could mean something of merit...in 11 years of mmo playing ive never seen such slackness

ive led 100s of ppl through some of the best raids EVER over the years,been team leader everytime and made sure they liked it,each and every one of them...id be ashamed to escort them into something like this
I wont bring them here to STO ..no way,not forming a guild / fleet in this game no way

ive beat god-like instances in far less time and with better,MUCH better loot,covered some epic maps,.had a genuine experience,but this?..man,this type of stuff would make some cancel their subscribtions

DAMN..sorry to moan guys,but if you venture into the"dig"..then good luck,hope you get more enjoyment from it than i did

kill 125 enemys? ( um thats called grinding cryptic..instances are not grinds,they are adventures with exciting elements of combat and tests of skill and teamwork )..HAHAHAHA omg,6 months and STO is gonna crash and burn if this is their standard of excellence

I beamed in with the quest reading 18/20 rescued. I thought I missed some of the fun, but ventured in anyway. Well after teaming up with a decent group and circling the trenches 3 times I gave up. I beamed out and then back in thinking i might get a diffent instance. I did and the quest meter said 19/20 rescued, oh no here we go again round and round, but i was saved by the global anouncment. "We are sorry captains, we have to shut down for maintenance".
Well i did loot a nice IX Dual disrupter pistol, so not a total loss.

Breaking the planet was fun, but I can't say the same for the Big Dig. I just don't like the respawning, or revisitng the trenches. Although the re-visiting would be less of an issue without the re-spawning.

Jumping around on the temple is fun...if they made it a straight progression through the trenches to the temple, clearing each area, it would work better.

Also, the respawning makes people quit because they can't rejoin the group easily.

how the hell did you get 3000 skill points? the mission only offered to accept 100+ points, and whatever i earned in mission which is like 1 skill point every few minutes.... took 3+ hours, i revived 100+ other players, killed a zillion enemys and just cant figure out how you got that many, if it had gave me 3k i wouldve been ok with that craptastic long of a mission.... so peeved about it i have another thread on the dig as well with some other suggestions that would help in many missions....
