# 1 High Yield I vs. High Yield II
04-02-2010, 05:27 AM
I ran some torp testing yesterday and came up with quite strange numbers for using High Yield I & II.

Using high yield I i got damage values around: 1800-2100
Using high yield II i got around: 1350-1450

is my math wrong or does hy1 fire 2 torps with 100% damage and hy2 3 torps with 66% damage? And if my math is not wrong, then what is exactly the advantage of hy2?

Each torpedo can crit on its own. The overall dmg without crits doesnt straight multiply with more torpedoes, but the potential with crits is alot greater.

yes, but the crit-damage is lower again. sounds a bit silly given that this power should be better than hy1

It is better, if you count raw dmg, its improved. Your chances that at least one torpedo will crit is increased also. Its just not plain multiplication. Higher versions of HYT favour people with high crit chances/severties aka tactical officers.

your math is wrong. Even with 100% crit the overall damage will be the same.

e.g. 2000 dmg, crit-multiplier 2

2x 4000 (HY1) vs. 3x 2.666 dmg (HY2)

in actuality, none of the torpedos crit for that low of an amount. I'm inclined to believe at this point that your theorycrafting.

remember: in theory there is no difference between practice and theory, but in practice there is.

that said: the odds of you critting with 1 of 3 torpedos is higher than the odds of you critting with 1 of two torpedos.

sure, but you need to crit more often to get the same total crit-damage, because your crits are lower.
