Hey Matt, Iím loving your suggestions and questions, especially the Red / Blue chat idea which is simply brilliant. You make a very good point, Red / Blues don't have a dedicated com channel; btw please could you explain what LFG PvP is please?

Also, I'm really happy now, I've just noticed you have asked about 1v1 PvP (Duals), as I've been worried that I was the only one interested in such a thing! LoL

I've posted the idea in a number of threads and no one else seems to care, either that or it could just be that my posts were not seen by those who do.

Anyway, thanks again Matt, great post you just made, I agree with al of it!

(this is the simple question but ill explain my ideas below for anyone interested)
can we get more variety in the pvp objectives, i.e king of the hill, capture the flag, etc.

this basically is the type of game we have. so new examples would be

king of the hill, where both teams aim to take and hold one location for a set time limit. points are scored for holding the locations. teams with the most points win after a time limit of 10 or 20 minutes or by reaching a score limit (similar to what we have now but they key point being one location)

capture multiple rotating locations. similar to king of the kill but the location that needs to be captured and held moves around the map. each location has a three minute limit on it and again points are scored for which ever team holds it. after three minutes the location switches to another place on the map

team deathmatch - there are a number of rounds and each team only gets one life per round with no re-spawn. first team to kill their opponents wins

capture the flag - there is a "flag" in the centre of the map. once one player grabs it, they become it and they gain points for their team for holding it. if they are destroyed another player can pick it up. the match again has a time limit. highest score wins.

convoy duty. a package needs to be picked up and delivered into a neutral base. players must protect the person with the package whilst trying to stop the others doing the same. or each side has a civilian npc transport convoy that must be protected whilst trying to destroy the enemies

free for all - shoot everything, most kills win

these missions can apply to space and ground and we need plenty of new maps to play on

LFG is MMO parlance for 'Looking For Group'. The LFG-PVP channel would be designed for PVPers to organise PUGs or premades into (for example) private matches, using the private queue system. It would also be used to organise PVP events, or general PVP team organisation for open PVP (such as Kerrat, and future open PVP maps).

If duels are introduced, then the LFG-PVP channel could also be used to arrange duels.

Similarly, a LFG-PVE channel should also be made, but that is beyond the scope of a PVP thread.

Thank you for your feedback and support of my other suggestions.

Just to be clear: I am probably not the first player to post some (or all) of those suggestions on the STO forums, so I cannot take credit for developing them. I do feel they are important, however, and deserve to be collated into one consolidated post here.

Thanks again!

Q: Is there any plans on removing or reworking the PvP Ques?
Right now ther are several planets you can fly to in the Neutral Zone, but all interacting with them does is place you in a PvP Que.... what is thet point of even having these systems to fly to if one can just as easily join the PvP que anywhere in the game world and be automatically dropped in?
Or will something special be done with the systems themselves instead?

1. I definitely for one want to see some open PvP zones! Is that going to happen? It preserves the PvP by choice option (don't go to an open PvP zone unless you want to PvP!) Maybe where more area you control in a zone more advantage your side gets?

2. Open duel zones and skirmish zones? I'd love for both to be available! Maybe some zone were Fed's "skirmish," and one for Klingon war games? I mean they spend all their lives becoming warriors so they should be able to practice and the Feds are at war with them =P.

3. What about some more ground combat skills? I feel like I don't have many options on the ground at any given point, sure I can switch my kit in between combat but that's still a little limiting. Would be great to see a few more skills given to each class! Or maybe specializing grants you some additional skills adding to a variety besides kits? (Would require maybe making points used for ground skills and space skills separate to avoid "gimping" yourself.)

# 27 Not a serious question, but...

Wouldn't it be fun to let the Klingon Faction be let loose, to roam free among the stars along with the Federation Faction, so they could go anywhere a Starfleet Captain could go, and challenge Starfleet vessels whenever they see fit?

It would cause so much chaos, but it would be so cool and realistic to! LoL

Please note, this is not a serious question, but in basic principle, it would be open PvP, but everywhere.

Will there be a penalty for leaving a pvp match, I.E. a deserter buff that makes it so you can not reque for a match for a certain amoun of time. Not a debuff for disconnecting just if they leave the match on thier own accord.
-
will there be a nerf to all consoles to match them up to the massive science console nerf?
-
Will there be an option for mixed faction teams I.E. fed / klingon teams together?
-
Will there be leader boards?
-
A built in "fraps" style recorder
-
Better buff and debuff icons on yourself. it can be hard to see what debuffs are on yourself currently.
-
Clean up the PVP que UI - way too cluttered and no good filter to organize it.
-
PVP batteries similar to the PVP hypos?
-
An option to see he results after the match at your own discretion rather than a giant box popping up right in front of your face when your fighting in a CnH (not so bad in a 5v5)
some kind of progress bar on CnH maps to show when a node is going to flip one way or another. Right now it is too ambiguous.
-
Runabout PVP maps (I know it silly but it popped in my head just now)
-
a use for half the science skills (MES, scramble sensors, charged particle burst, photonic shockwave, tractor beam repulsors) all these skills are fluff in PVP,
-
a fix to the gravity well bug that pulls you into the well long after it has gone away.
-
tractor beam pulling a ship towards the source rather than a rooting effect?
-
Nerf quantum torps DPS they are he only iable torp to use for pvp right now.
and a hug +1 to all the other posts, some great ideas out there.

This is a good idea in principle. It will lead to griefing though.

# 30 Suggestions for adding to STO
04-04-2010, 09:13 PM
Hello all,

I am new to the STO experience, but no stranger to MMO games. I have been an Eve Online player for over a year, and one of the things that made me change was the fact that I'm not constantly out mining and waiting for skills to advance for over a month, just to use new weapons.

Don't get me wrong, Eve is a good game, graphics and all, but let's face it...it's not Star Trek.

That being said, I have a few questions that I'd like to propose, and/or a few suggestions.

1. Being a die hard ST:TNG fan (yes even at the age of 35), I was sort of disappointed to see that the Nebula Class Starship was not in the configuration database, and yet the Galaxy Class is...will you be putting the Nebula Class ship in, as from what I recall from Star Trek Command III, it was a tough little ship.
Not only did it serve it's purpose as a Science vessel, it was also a good combat vessel. It had a "Multi-role" purpose, which would work out nicely here in STO...

2. In Eve Online, you get the opportunity to meet up with Corporations, who have wars with other Corps.
This changes the balance of power in the universe, and thus is a bit more exciting on the PvP level. They call it the "Sandbox". Basically one person's decision can change the entire outcome of the game in one large realm. Have you considered this in the overall picture of the space maps, where if say a Klingon fleet were to overtake a Starfleet armada, that balance of power has now advanced the line for the Klingons, thus giving them that sector and star systems within it. (essentially moving the neutral zone one direction or another)?

3. Open Market - Like Eve, you have the ability to travel to different systems to purchase and sell supplies on a "real-time" market, where the prices change every hour based on supply and demand. Will this also be integrated into STO? I personally think it would be a good idea, as that way you could be within a fleet that has to escort a freighter to it's destination, and fight off the bad guys (mission idea here, hint, hint).

4. Starship design - I understand that according to the rank you hold, you are only allowed to choose between 3 types of ships (Ensign's only get one class, and 3 types of mods externally) and modify them within only that class of ship. Would you consider allowing the previous options for cosmetic modifications to be added to the next ship as well. Still keeping the new ship within it's class, but just allowing more than 3 selections per part of cosmetic modifications on the ship?

5. Total Personalization of a Starship Hull - One of the things that I have loved to see over the years of the Star Trek movies is the complete different types of ships that you don't normally see on TV. Akira Class, Sabre Class, Luna, Nebula, Sovereign, etc. One thing that I always thought would be cool in an MMO like this would be allowing the player to design their own Starship, using all the parts and pieces cosmetically, and then allowing them to fly it within the game, irregardless of thier rank. For example, you could allow (as it is now) an Ensign to design a Miranda class ship, with nacelles from say, a Galaxy Class starship (adding for the coolness effect). Keeping in mind, of course, that those nacelles would obviously be scaled down to size for the little Miranda Class Cruiser. Small things like this. I firmly believe that if we all got a chance to do a full customization to your ship design wise, a ton of players would come. This is just one of the many things that would be great as a future idea, along with my before mentioned ideas.

Many thanks for your time and consideration in this, and please, keep up the good work. This game does what Eve could not...and since it's a project in development, it's nice to see the advances as they come out.

Sincerely,

Lieutenant Henry J. Anderson II
