if it affects beam attacks, it affects all weapons with "beam" in the name so yes.

also turrets count as cannons for abilities, skills, and powers

It affects the next beam to fire. If that happens to be your dual beam bank, it overloads the dual beam bank.

This is kind of related to the question I have about beam overload.

Does the skill effect depend on which beam fired it? Would a player get more out of the skill by using it on a dual beam bank?

(Made up numbers for example)

Scenario 1:
Beam array does 220 dmg, goes up to 1100 (500%) when overloaded
Dual Beam bank does 245 dmg, goes up to 1225 (500%) when overloaded
880 dmg boost for array
980 dmg boost for bank

Scenario 2:
Beam array does 220 dmg, goes up to 1150 (523%) when overloaded
Dual Beam bank does 245 dmg, goes up to 1175 (480%) when overloaded
930 dmg boost by this skill regardless of what weapon is overloaded

Which of these two scenarios is more accurate? If you can point out problems with my example too, that would help me understand.

You will always get more damage out of overloading a dual beam bank, but that doesnt mean the damage of an overloaded single beam array is anything to sneeze at.

Also, keep in mind that currently Beam Overload is bugged and has the nasty tendency of knocking out your used beam bank/array until you are either destroyed or initiate warp.

Ok thanks. So it sounds like it's more like my scenario 1.
Any comparison btwn the two? Is the bank going to be 10-15% more effective, or more like 50-75% more?

I have heard about that bug too. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon. The ensign tactical skills don't offer a lot of choices.

That beam overload bug sucks!!!

I have had it disable 2/4 of my beam weapons in a single pvp match. On top of that, it somehow makes my beam weapons get stuck in auto-fire mode.

Beam Overload definitely works for Beam Banks. It charges them up to over 8k (with maxed skills) and can get hits between 12k to 18k, with crits as high as 36k.
