I am sorry if this has been covered before. But What is the best torpedo's in terms of DPS? I am thinking of trying out Chronoton or Transphasic torpedos. Lately I have been using Quantums.

Stick with the Quantums, and get a single Tricobalt for actions with the Borg and a few others.

Only use the Tricobalt with-in 5 Km. Why? Tricobalt torps are big and slow and easily shot down. The plus side, a Tricobalt HYT boom at 32K buts some serious hurt on the target.

I've never tried Chroniton myself, however I did recently try out Transphasics on my Raptor but unfortunately I found them to be......lacking....

My thinking in trying them out (and speccing into them for full effect) was that their shield penetrating damage would offset their reduced overall damage when compared to quantums or tricobalt weapons. However I found that their damage was just too low for it to matter what the penetration was.

I specced 9/9 into transphasic, and their DPS was on the order of 200 points lower (without any buffs popped) than the Quantum launcher I had in my aft array (with 0/9 points in it). As for penetrating damage, in PvP I found that my opponents shields were down more often than not when I fired a volley of Torpedoes, and in cases where an enemy popped Reverse Shield Polarity, the penetrating damage was minor and made no real difference as the fights progressed.

Bottom line, stat-wise you're best off sticking with Quantums over Transphasic, but again I can't speak to Chroniton as I have not tried them out yet.

While this is indeed the biggest knock against transphasics ... keep in mind that there are changes afoot from the devs in terms of shield power ... shield viability ... and tactical/cannon DPS. All of which, when combined, may have enough of an impact to alter the usefulness of transphasic torpedoes.

However, these changes haven't even been put on test server yet. So are not a near future thing. And may not have enough of an impact anyways. Just saying that, there's a small possibility that six months from now, Transphasics might be a slightly better choice than they are now. But even that's just a big "maybe."

depends on how you use your torpedoes.

if you surgically use your torps, quantums are the best. they have the highest burst damage. they also travel fastest to target ot of all torps

if u spam torps whenever they finish cooling down shields or no shields on your target then photons actually have the highest dps because they have the shortest cool down (6 secs i believe, quantums have 8 sec cooldown)

transphasic - as said the extra bleed through is not worth it

chroniton - long cooldown, not great damage, but a good chance to place a slow effect on the target

Tri-cobalt - massive damage! long cooldown, DOES NOT BENEFIT from BOff power like HYT (not suppose to anyway), slow traveling, can be shot down. i believe the largest crit i have seen in the game was from a tricobalt impacting the bare hull of my fleet escort (68k damage) yah it hurt real badd real bad)

plasma - never used have seen it used alot in pvp. HYT make a heavy plasma torp that can be shot down

If in doubt, good old quantums. Load up on buffs, get the best HYT possible, wait until the shields are down, then blow them away. It's not a dps weapon. It's a blast em once and blast em good weapon.
