I can't find a post anywhere that answers this question so here it is: is it possible to use opposing faction bridge officers? As a federation officer I can see klingon faction officers for sale at the exchange but I'm wondering if I could actually use them on my fed ship? And vice versa, could a klingon captain use a fed race like a vulcan on a klingon ship?

You can buy them, but they won't join your crew or train other BOs. Its basically a waste of EC. Be careful when you buy Klingon or Alien BOs, only way to tell them apart is the faction icon. Very annoying if you search "alien tactical" and the only one with the trait you want is the wrong faction.
