Its not that the weapons are overpowered or that RAs/BGs have figured out what to use with what...Its the shields...they suck....all of them...Unless there is a very cool and ubber shield drop out there that only 1 guy has, anything you can buy...sux...I just saw my RA5 buddy(Sci Ship/beta tester) with 10k worth of shield Points (very nice drop)...get sliced and diced like he was at a sushi bar, in a even numbered PvP fight...If they nerf the weapons and consules ect. ect. it will screw up the PvE game...we need decent shields...

If 10k worth of shield pts is not enough on a science ship to last longer then riding a bull(8sec)...what chance do the rest of us have?....Oh wait....we didn't even get out of the chute...Regen rate isn't a factor in PvP, battle doesn't last 6 secs.

Fix the shields...all of them...a Mk X Purple Shield with 3700pts...????...your joking right.

Counters
Pre-patch
Reverse Shield Polarity
Target subsystems weapons
Jam sensors
Subnucleonic Beam (put his weapons on cooldown)
Energy Siphon
Tyken's Rift
Have a team-mate heal you (Science Team + Extend Shields + Transfer Shield Strength)
Just get out of the way - DHCs only have a 45 degree firing arc

Post-patch
all the above, plus...
Subnucleonic Beam (strip his buffs)
Feedback Pulse (strictly just a deterrant, but he'd be insane to target you if you activate this)

Alright, assumption: shield has 20.ooo points each site.

1v1 - dog fight situation: the extreme high shield threshold plus reg rate will shift the advantage towards
federation (Sci-Ship with extreme shield bonus, nothing similar on KdF).

5v5 - alpha strike & focus fire: 5 attackers (on both sides) can dash out an insane DPS, still blowing away
20.ooo shield points very quick and can rib you apart in less then 5 seconds.

Following up on this cookie trail, we will go down in a "nerf/patch/balance" spiral, so lets exaggerate.

Weapons damage get nerfed by 50% and shields get pushed up to 50.ooo.

PvP will be much more longer, but the advantage of alpha strike has been taken away from KdF, what makes
KdF unique (unless Romis released).
Advantage and balance of PvP will be moved strongly towards Fed side, why?
A TAC in a Sci shield will combine now a high durability in combination with an insane damage output, without
a "counter" on KdF side.

But as always, just my 2 energy credits towards this never ending story :/

This is the crux of it.

This doesn't necessarily need to be balanced IMHO (and I'm a Fed). Its all about surviving the alpha strike.

Its possible even for an Escort to withstand focus fire with enough buffs/healing, AND if said Escort is on the ball.

Once his initiall volley is spent, he's got nothin'! Alot of Klinks are counting on the notion that you'll freak out and become disorganised after the initial strike. If you can keep your composure then the advantage is yours.

I just cant think purple shields are that bad. As a BG5 Im still using my blue commander shield and I get by. So purple MkX cant be all bad.

I'm really looking forward to the shields getting their bump in resist rate based on level of shield power. It'll give more players a greater incentive to run with a mixed power spec or at least to swap out of max weapons for a change. I feel like if significant enough, this can slow down the pace of battle a little bit without breaking it.

shields are not there to keep you from going POP they are there as a buffer to to your hull. You do not need shields. sorry to break the news but they are there to be your be all end all of defense.

My "insane alpha strike" is my 1st line of defense the shield is just a buffer, it need last no longer than my strike.

The best defense is a good offense after all. Cruisers specialise in keeping those shields up, sci ships to a lesser degree but they have alternate modes of defense.

If space pvp was all about the shields and nothing about the tactics it'd be as boring as PvE missions
