# 1 Memory Alpha - Covariant Mk X
04-28-2010, 09:51 PM
Okay, I'm lost.

In another thread, a player had a Covariant Mk X shield with a cap of 10,189 cap with a 170/sec regen.

When asked, the player said that this shield was "maxed out" from Memory Alpha.

When I finally got past Dren and got to Gwenn, the highest cap Covariant shield I can get is 7,838 cap.

So, what exactly is "Maxed out"? How is this 10k+ cap shield unlocked thru Memory Alpha?

I don't know much about Memory Alpha as I have no patience for the repetitive system and sinking all that time and money into it... but do you have a Science Vessel? Sci Vessels get a bonus 125% to their shield capacity. Cruisers get 100% and Escorts get 75% I think. Anyhoo, that may be the issue, if you don't have a Sci Vessel.

The shield should show it's max cap when it's in the slot, shouldn't it?

I've got a 7,838 cap shield that if I put it on an Escort, Cruiser or Science ship, it shill shows 7,838 cap.

The only place the difference shows up is under the Defense stat for the ship.

A friend of mine has a cruiser, has the same 7,838 cap shield, put it on an Assault Cruiser and it still reads 7,838, but only shows different in the defense stat.

So I'm lost.

Here's a question, and I'm hoping this isn't the case..

The items crafted at Memory Alpha--do their stats depend on the class that you're character is? The T3 Science was unlocked with an Engineer..

As far as I know, there is a known bug that the last ship you bought determined what every shield you would buy or use displays as its shield value. That doesn'T affect its actual stat, but if the last thing you bought was a Runabout, your shield values would look horrible, and if the last thing you bought was a Science vessel, it would look awesome.

I am not sure what the best shield from Memory Alpha normally gives.

I'd really like confirmation..because a 10,189 shield with 170 regen is sounding amazing, and being an escort driver, I could use all the cap I can get.

The weird part is, 7,838 is all I can find on the exchange too. I simply cannot find a shield with a higher cap anywhere.

If it is a bug, I hope they fix it quickly. It's annoying. I won't be crafting that shield until I know for sure what's going on, and at the moment, it's got millions tied up into getting that far..

It's a display bug, as has already been explained to you.

Since you're an "escort driver", know this: you will never, ever even come close to a covariant shield with 10189 capacity.... such high stats are strictly for science type vessels only, as they have a bonus to shield capacity.

Also, the value that you get to see on items such as shields is currently determined by the most recent ship you bought. Again, this is just a display issue; the applied value is always determined and used correctly for the ship you actively use.

EDIT: this bug is known to Cryptic and has been fixed internally - it should be applied to the live server along with one of the next upcoming patches.

Your purple is [Cap x 3]. The Memory Alpha, blue, is [Cap x 2]. And the numbers you both are posting are Science Ship values.

I'm aware that as an escort driver I'll never get the full 10k+ on an Escort. That's not really where my concern is.

A friend of mine, who is flipping the bill on the shields and has already flipped the bill on unlocking T3 science at Memory Alpha is a cruiser driver (Engineer) and sees the same shield we already have. 7,838 cap Covariant.

I realize that on an Escort this will never give 7,838 cap, but it should display 7,838 cap on the shield itself no matter what I put it on, and drop it down to 6.*k in the Defense value, right?

So, shouldn't the shield item from the vendor show the max cap? Being a bug, if my friend crafts that shield, will it be the same ultimately as the 7,838 cap shield she already has?

What about the regen difference? Our current shield has a 131 regen, and the new shield supposadly has a 170 regen. Will that carry over to any ship?

It should, yes, but it currently doesn't. The fix for it is internal; they haven't pushed it live yet.

The bonus - or penalty - given to shields based on ship type also applies to the regen rate, so it will not carry over.
