This has a nasty damage over time effect that prevents any heal from affecting its victim. I'm wondering, is there any ground skill that can counter the effects before it kills you or your BOff? SInce we tried most Science abilities, I'm thinking that maybe an Engineering skill like Quick Fix might cancel it, but was hoping someone could give a definitive answer.
None of the Science skills which are supposed to remove bleeds and debuffs seems to work against it.
Generally you can live through one of them (heals do have some effect, but they are greatly reduced). Two or more at the same is usually a death sentence, at least in the STFs.
The counter is not to stand close enough for them to do it, and/or to use your melee attack to knock them back and interrupt it.
There's no counter against the DoT, however, you can dispel the hold with Motion Accelerator. Usually my medic boff keeps me alive while I get out of range as fast as I can. My boffs are unfortunately not that smart....
Thanks for the good info! I had another Borg ground fight on elite last night and it went a lot smoother. First knock down borg, THEN go after them with the bat'leth...yeah, that should have been obvious the first time, but what can I say? I'm just a dumb redshirt.
The only way to counter assimilation is not to get close enough to non-tacticals in the first place. And if you do get hit, the only way is by luck where its slow and you can counter it though healing devices.
But if you think about the STFs, its ironic its all about a cure to Borg assimilation, and yet the new Borg Medical Kits you get in the Cure don't have the ability.
It would make sense if the biofilter sweep and nanite health monitor removed it, after all that's what the biofilter is supposed to do and nanites are small machines that should be capable of neutralising the Borg's.
For the 'solution' of not letting them get close to you that isn't really an option you can rely on. I've had drones shoot their assimilation bobbins into me from quite a distance yet every use of it in the series and films has been from so close that they could whisper sweet nothings into your ear if they wanted to. Like many aspects of ground combat I fear it may be broken. I've lost count of the times I've rolled out of the way of a grenade and it still hits me.
The counter to this is wearing polyweave armor and/or the Drylvene(sp) medic buff. The assimilation attack they use is physical dmg. This armor really takes the edge off.
