Errg... I was so close to ignoring this thread and its village burning rioters too...

New T5 variants of current T4 ships will have special powers? Not sure how I feel about that. Now I'm foreseeing the T5 Intrepid with Super-Batmobile-Armor and a T5 Defiant with Amazing Loop-the-Loop Action. Ugh.

Even if the powers aren't ridiculous, just the fact that they have special abilities over the other T5's I find disheartening. I'm not a fan of any of the T4s, and was looking forward to some actual new designs for future ships, not re-hashed old designs.

The 3-Nacelle Future Enterprise config will be an exclusive variant of a T5 Galaxy ship we are planning to add to the game as we increase the skillcap at various points in the future. In fact I see plans on the schedule to add T5 versions of the Galaxy, Intrepid, and Defiant class.

So yes - the Future Enterprise - 3 Nacelle config is an exclusive "variant" and may be the only T5 Galaxy for a while, but there will be ways to get similar ships in the future - they just might not have the 3rd Nacelle - or front mount single phaser cannon.

you may now go back to your regularly scheduled riot...
*sigh* That's really not the point.

It's starting to feel like everything 'neat' going into the game is going into the C-store or getting locked up behind 'exclusives'. And even as a possessor of multiple of those it's starting to really chafe. Now there's gimmicks like this and this with completely unique actual game effects!? No, you're right, the Galaxy-X is nothing by comparison.

...I stand corrected. The Galaxy-X is that bad.

The people working on these items ARE NOT the same people responsible for fixing bugs.

A modeler for ships, planets, etc, may not be the best person to debug actual game code. Someone working in the sound effects department would likely not be the best choice to tweak game balance.

It would be a waste of resources to have the content teams, including those working on items like this, idle while bugs are fixed. Well I know this game needs many bugs fixed, but the guys who make cool stuff for us need to keep busy, too.
exactly this.

The entire team is expected to constantly deliver based on their discipline. Everyone has individual schedules of what they should be working on next. In the case of the 3rd Nacelle config for the galaxy - that was done by the lead ship model artist (with a little of his own extra time) in addition to all the cool new ships he is working on for the new sectors coming to the game.

Yeah, can't say I am a big fan of this.

Its once again punishing the people who adopted early. We've had a rough time already without putting sought-after items behind gates we likely can't open realistically.

I probably have gotten 5 people to try the game since launch. I think 2 liked it enough to stick with it a month.

Even then I won't get credit for referring them because I did it too early.

You guys seriously need to talk with the guys over at Champions Online. They seem to have gotten the message about using content as "bait" - they stopped doing it.

The referral rewards there are more than adequate, extra slots, extra game time, and an action figure (NPC pet)

Honestly its just getting harder to support you guys. I WANT to remain a loyal fan, but here is another thing I can't have because I started early.

STO has the most Unpleasable Fanbase I've ever seen.

Still, I have to wonder if these decisions are being made by Marketing at Atari. I've had enough bad experiences with Marketing in my own organization to know that they really make some horrible decisions.

But why is he working on the 3rd nacelle version when the base/original version still hasen't been fixed yet...

dstahl, could you be so kind as to answer these two questions for me, about the referal program?

1.) Are the accounts going to be tracked by e-mail accounts?
2.) Assuming that one has a family, does using the same Credit Card to pay for these accounts against this system? I'm thinking of getting this as a gift for my Dad and I want to surprise him with it so a little clarification on this matter would help.

Oh and dstahl, this made my day.

And if your "patience is wearing thin" about a bleedin' VIDEOGAME, perhaps it's time to step back and try toget some perspective on it - helps to lower stress levels, y'know? Stress can do lots of things to you - such as cost you your sense of humor, and lead you to RAGE! over things that, six months later, you'll look back on and cringe that you ever got worked up about in the first place. It's that kinda investment (or, over-investment) that leads to Fan Dumb, after all (and READ the article before you comment on it - it's not a insult). In this thread we're seeing prime examples of King Customer, Tinfoiler, and Easily Impressed.

See above - perhaps your emotional investment has gotten a bit unreasonable?

Not to belittle you're point, b/c I think I actually agree with you on this, but the Automated Defense Turret/Battery/tactical console item is nothing new. It's been around since pre-order days. As for the bonus for the D2D, I don't know if that's the same store bonus (not pre-order bonus) that they had during the pre-order period, but I remember thinking that D2D's store bonus wasn't worth it for me over the defense turret when I was pre-ordering the game. (although looking at that D2D converter thing now looks like it might be better in the long run)

But yeah, C-Store items shouldn't have special abilities over things you can earn/get in-game. I don't mind if there are some "neater" looking things in the C-Store to give us more options on the same types of things that we see in-game, but they shouldn't have more functionality than what we can get in-game either.

For example:
  • new costumes/ship cosmetic pieces = good
  • new armor pieces that have a random proc (something not in-game)/or ship designs that have special powers over their tier counterparts = bad
