Yup
Cryptic has proved that they will listen if theres a big enough outcry from the community, like with the 90-day thingie that blw up in their face. :p
Complete assumption on your part. The fact is, regardless of the reason, Blizzard started a referral program when they actually had a solid game to refer people to.
Also, the "encourage a friend to try the product you have" is not a new concept.
You completely missed the point of what I said. You'd been saying that Blizzard waited to begin a referral program, but I countered saying that they were the first to use a program that was based on a "recruit and reward" system as the one Cryptic will be using. You come back at me saying that it doesn't matter because they had a finished game that was several years into use.
Turn back the cloak and ask yourself if Blizzard would have started up a recruit and reward program for WoW several months after it's initial release, and the answer is they probably would have as it works. A huge number of people complained when Blizzard opened their own store and started selling in-game items on it, but that didn't stop people from spending millions to get the celestial mount did it?
lets make things far from an economical point of view, the 5 friends referal costs roughly $15x 5 (usd)
so that's $75 and lets say it's $7 for 500 points (roughly) soo... 75/7 = 10.7... or 11...
11x500 = 5,500 =o
ssooo, lets make the galaxy class a c-store item, but so the same ammount of money is paid weither we buy it as a c-store item or get 5 friends to pay a 1 month subscription, lets make it cost 5,500 c-store points to get >_>;
seems fair, right?
but wait! =o
if you refer 5 friends you also get 400 free C-store points, soo, we can apply this aswell..
400x5 =2000
5,500 - 2000 = 3,500
so lets make the galaxy class worth 3,500 points ^_^ (instead of giving you bonus points for purchasing the ship (like you would with a friend referal) the points are applied as a discount towards the ship instead .
thoughts? ideas? would you really pay 3500 points just to have ship skin?
Regular Galaxies have none of the gameplay features the X have. So no.
Considering the insane debates that took place months before release between which should be on top (the Galaxy or Sovereign), he's got a reasonably point. It won't be the exact same, but there were/are a significant number of people on these forums that wanted the Galaxy to be T5 and the Sovereign to be T4.

Whether they deliberately waited or not, the point is that it was started at a point where the game could stand up on it's own.
STO is not doing the same.
Yeah, it will reduce the rage... in the MONTHS it takes for them to come out with it while this Galaxy-X will be out by the end of this month.
This ship is the first in a new generation of T5 vessels. This is not just a ****ing reskin of a T5, its a brand new T5 with new stats AND new powers attached. The rest of the playerbase dont get THEIR next generation ships until later... I.E the regular galaxy, Defiant and Intrepid.
Players get something that is better than everyone else with new powers and no equivelent match... oh look unbalance.
That's good news, dstahl! Hopefully they'll see that we really want this ship in a different way, other than getting our friends to play the game.
Also: Can this ship go Warp 13 like it can in the episode? Would that mean slightly faster travel times in Sector Space? Because taht would be amazing.

The part that says that Cryptic is comfortable enough to risk their company and the game's future on this doesn't say anything to you? It doesn't give you the slightest hint of faith that Cryptic is getting to a point where they feel they can really start bringing people back to the game and attracting new players altogether?
