# 1 Tractor beam/Polarize hull

My opinion is that tractor beam is useless-why-because you can reroute power to a shield which is exposed or use a boff power for defense,so it seems like a very easy defense.If that's the case then what's the use of polarize hull except for hull resistance?

I opened this topic so we can discuss,so discuss folks...

I played with polarize hull for awhile on my sci/sci... it's nice to break the hold. With some point spend though it does provide a fantasitc hull resist. I don't use it anymore however for 2 reasons 1) if I"m down to hull I'm in bad trouble anyway and 2) it only lasts 15 sec.
If ph was more like 30sec it would be on a lot more builds. I can remember at least one occasion where I took a heavy beating from an escort and walked away with 75 hull.

tractor beam is absolutely invaluble in combat, particularly against dps class ships. it takes significantly longer for dps class ships to reroute power than it is for them to turn a face. It also kills their defensive rating bonuses from speed, which enables significantly more firepower to be aimed at them and actually hit. Additionally, if you can force them to use a defensive buff when they don't need it then chances are it won't be available to them when they actually do need it.

Tractor beam also puts your opponents in TERRIBLE positions when used properly. If you can snag an escort while he is outside of his proper arc thats 10 seconds of him not dpsing. If you can snag a ship while its outside of range of a healer, you can force a kill through. Against klinks they cannot run as effectively, which to a lesser degree is potent against feds as well.


Polarize hull was never taken for the tractor beam immunity. Escorts have access to APO, which is much more effective than polarize at protecting against holds and is coincidentally in tactical (which they have a plethora of Boff slots for). Tractor beam is only a minor inconvenience against cruisers and science vessels during combat, so there was no need for it there either.

Polarize hull was always brought for the very large (energy weapon) hull resistance. It may be very specialized and sub-optimal in many cases, but it is NOT weak

it scales with aux, version 2 gives over 100% at 100 aux.

I can currently run at 95% at only 73 Aux(edit: Aux doesnt improve PH)...thats in large part due to consoles and equipment boosts.

But I noticed last night that it appeared my PH didnt pevent me from being tractored...its possible I got hit with SNB on my egress, but it raised an eye brow none the less.

Anyway...for a BoP in T5, PH is essential to my survival when cloaking under fire...I have a tremendous survival rate for cloaking under sustained barrages...even from multiple attackers.

Probably a higher rank tractor beam like II or III

Polarized hull isnt affected by AUX as far as i know, but it raises rather drastically with halon consoles.

Tractor Beams are effective if the person you are fighting doesn't have Polarized Hull or APO (as a BO power or on Cooldown).

However, a desperate player can use EPtE and/or Evasive to get out of range, til the beam wears off.

I have one BO with PH1, and another with PH3. Playing with my Sci Vessel in B'Train, PH is really helpful against Borg Cubes that like to drain your shields. Combined with Hazard System to damp down the plasma fires, it's a great combination.
