Hi all,

Any of you lot play champions, i played it during open beta but never subbed as i just got a little bored with it. I did enjoy the game but just wanted to know what the state of it is. What's good, what's bad. is pvp improved, how's the endgame. how's the teaming, the state of the public quests. anything. What the latest patches been like. i might check it out again but would like an honest review. try to point out the good and bad please

if i post this anywhere else it will drift to page 100, never be read or get closed for having nothing to do with STO

Thanks.

I play F.E.A.R. from time to time. It's one of the more fun first-person shooters out there. The multiplayer is awesome.

Champions in it's current state:

Champions has always been fun for me. It is very comic-booky in atmosphere and appearance. The game has a strange sense of self-referencing humor. I love the more complex missions, the raids, and the group encounters. There are a lot of 'Defeat 7 Waltzing Monkeys' missions which get kinda boring but new missions tend to be veering away from those.

Then there is the Nemesis system. This is fun, all the way around. My only complaint is I wish there were more tailored 'personalities' for your Nemesis to have. But the missions tend to be good and comic booky.

Best part is the character creator. Options are all over the place. Have fun here.

Some things I don't like is Vibora or Pay For A Bay. It is a new zone that can only be accessed by microtransaction. Content is kinda slim in parts still, combined with a limited endgame means you will be running the exact same missions for every character you make.

This is going to sound heretical, but try City of Heroes. Yes, that. I'm having a blast playing villain side. PVP is pretty imbalanced, but PVE story arcs abound. That and it's originally cryptic, so character creation rocks.

Why did Cryptic sell City of Heroes then do Champions Online?

I was a massive fan and player of the Champions PnP game in the 80s and 90s (everytime a new edition of the rules came out, my friends and I would run a new campaign it seems), so I jumped on the Champions MMO. I even splurged on the Lifetime membership.

Ravenstein has pretty much hit the high points already, but for me it was all about the character creator. So far I have been able to recreate (or at least 95% recreate) all the heroes I drew back in the day and that alone has made it awesome for me. Being able to blow around town in the dead-on image of the heroes I imagined myself playing decades ago was (and still is) an incredible nostalgia blast. The humor is extremely pop-culture-centric and omnipresent (especially in mission names). Unfortuantely, The PvP is all about cookie-cutter FotM builds (which sucks IMO). I still drop in, now and then, just to fly around in my main and blow up some evil.

Well I don't PvP much, so that is an area I wouldn't be well versed in.

THIS is a signature of cryptic games. Whether it's city of stalkers/blasters/corruptors/dom/screw every other AT or Escorts Online, extremely unbalanced PVP is the norm

Kinda goes with the territory. You give people unlimited freedom in character design and you get everyone using the same uber-win powers.
