I just had a Photonic Raptor deliver 4900 HP with a torpedo while fighting a Borg Cube.

How are holograms able to deliver such potent damage outputs? Where is all this energy coming from? Wouldnt be easier to package this into a beam than to disperse it out into space as a "fake" fleet, while also allowing them to produce or carry and then deliver potent amounts of weaponized energy.

Im ok with photonic fleet being a good diversion...but really, should its bark really have a bite?

Why not? A photonic bullet can kill, why not a photonic phaser blast or photonic (photon) torpedo?

Light is matter (radiation).

There's nothing that suggests that photonic energy (molecules of light, so to speak) couldn't be made malleable via some process (hence, the futuristic tech of Star Trek).

We already know from TNG that photonic energy can kill (at least in the fictional world of Star Trek) -- hence the safety protocols on the holodecks.

This is science fiction..... that possesses faster than light travel (which as to our own actual current understanding of physics, is impossible)... and you're having problems with the idea of photons killing?

Seems silly.

I have no problem with photons killing. My problem is that thats a lot of energy being put out with holo-emmitors. You'd be better off atking all that destructive energy and using the holo-emmittor itself as a weapon instead.

How is a photonic torpedo delivering anti-matter detonations? That requires anti-matter and matter...and its containment. All the energy in that torpedo explosion has to be coming from the holo-emittor...why waste it on creatinga fask ship?

That photonic fleet doesnt come from no where, its energy and substance, even the enrgy in its weapons have to come from somewhere...its form the ship generating it. Torpedoes go boom for a reason, a reason self constained within them...where is the anti-matter on the photonic torpedo? The energy weapons require power form the warp core...where is the warp core? Where does t get its power from, how is it produced in a fake ship with no core?

If one could put that much energy into one ship, or the 3 ships we can get, how is the ship generating it able to dsustain its energy output.

Shoot, we wouldnt even need warp cores anymore...just make a fake one with holo-emittors and it'll power your ship for you? What sense does that make?

I agree, it doesn't make any sense that using holo-emitters to project holographic ships which fire holographic weapons could possibly be more effective than channeling all that energy into an actual weapon.

And yes, I agree it should be a diversionary thing - perhaps it should come up with the names of your bridge officers or something, so that people in PvP might actually be tempted to shoot at them first?

Time to upgrade those consoles!

E=mc^2 Energy and matter are convertible.

But hey blame the TNG writers. Of course it makes no sense, its fiction, science fiction. What they do is theoretically possible, but as you're aware its absurd.

Just get over it is my advice. Plenty of stuff is impossible or silly in Star Trek.

And that's what makes ST so damn cool! The impossible is suddenly possible!

Its not concern over people dying...its the gamey way in which we are allowed to kill. I actually benefited from the damage...the darn thing finished off a Borg Cube.

My thing is that the Devs have once again created a weapon that materializes more weapon damage than the ship has energy to produce.

Photonic Fleet is just fine as a diversion...it didnt have to be weaponized...but for some reason, Cryptic cant think past damage dealing. Ive used the skill as a diversion very effectivly in PvP...its been used against me in the same capacity effectivly, it works reasonably well against NPC as a diversion also. Whydoes it have to be weapon?

Granted, I understand how it has a more limited benefit when used by a Fed in PvP...unless you are lucky enough to get them to materialize behind or in the blind spot of thier opponent. The materialization of the Fleet is a dead give away since Feds cant just appear. But for the KDF, its very effective, as it appears cloaked vessels are de-cloaking to aid the player. It does a great job as a diversion for tin can BoPs in over thier head....even if it only did 1HP of damage per shot.
