Guys, if you didn't get an auto confirmation for the contest don't worry. I realized after the first day or so that our system wasn't sending out emails so I asked for it to be corrected. From here on out, if you submit something to that address, you'll get a confirmation.
I'm reading through them this week and then the finalists will go forward to our team and the winner will be chosen by next week.
I can guarantee that it's much more organized this time. We're in a bit of a growing pains stage with our web tech so sometimes it gets all randy and doesn't want to work the way I want it to. So I take a big fat wrench and I knock it around a little and we move forward.
I had 4000 monkeys on typewriters send out 4000 submissions, so my monkeys got 1-4000. Primates are allowed to enter right?
funny you should say that, there was a paper I did that talked about probability of a monkey sitting and typing for infinity... In some point in infinity that monkey would have to type the complete works of Shakespeare. However i guess that is a bit off topic.... I think I was thinking if I had your 4000 monkeys for infinity it might have gone quicker...

I had that question for statistical physics this year.
I had that question for statistical physics this year.
I can't find my paper, but I think my math put it so small a probability that if the entire universe was filled with monkeys typing for the entire current age of the universe (even excluding punctuation and spaces) not a single copy would have been produced yet.
This is because there are some HUGE numbers being dealt with. For example, Hamlet has 130,000 characters not counting punctuation... so the chance the monkey hit the first letter right is 1 in 26, and then to hit the second letter right is 1 in 26x26. From there the odds start stacking against the monkey. After one sentence the monkey has beat odds of 1 in 20 with 27 0's or 20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. So page 2 and 3 and 4 and so on start to create numbers that we as humans have nothing to compare it to. After a dozen pages there are less atoms in our galaxy then odds for the correct typing. After half the book there have existed less photons from the beginning of the universe then the odds.
Makes you think a bit about the power of the mind and the power of words... and about how bad of typists monkeys are.
or more to the point, what relevence monkeys has with shakespeare... why not type C.S Lewis books up?!
also... also... well, my mind is now filled with random digits... but whats to say a story typed by a monkey isn't their own version of Hamlet? in some form of monkey language that we don't understand?
Making out that monkey's aren't intellectual enough to defeat probability is cruel and err, whateverphobic,

It gets.... randy? hehehe that Dr. Daystrom and his crazy M5 computers, what mischief will they get up to next.
I'm guessing randy may have a different meaning across the ocean.
As far as I know there is no other meaning in the US. I think he means that the computers are going crazy because of the massive amounts of porn the devs download.
