Did you get a chance to check out the Undine Terrordome yet? If not, go check it out (at least get into the "sewers" behind Quark's Bar before reading this). So what could Cryptic have done to make the Undine viable in STO? Here's my ideas. Cryptic, are you "listening"?
  • Greatly reduce the numbers. Make the Undine much more unique. Don't throw hundreds of them at a 5-man group of Federation Rear Admirals. That cheapens the experience. We're supposed to be startled by meeting one. Currently the Undine added to Terrordome make STO feel more like Starship Troopers and less like Trek.
    .
  • Make the Undine more powerful (provided their numbers are cut back by powers of 10). They're supposed to be an extremely dangerous species. Give them melee attacks that are even more deadly to keep us on our toes so that we never want to see them up-close. With the current zerg-fest of Undine, this isn't reasonable. But with MUCH fewer numbers, this would make things much more interesting.
    .
  • Let the Undine hide. Make them more difficult to spot. Initially, Voyager's crew had a difficult time finding them. Make them hide in the shadows and pop out at us when least expected. Make them into the xenophobic species they're supposed to be in Trek canon.
    .
  • Give the Undine better AI. Have them hide and protect themselves at range, then run it to try to do deadly melee damage to players. Right now they just run around and attack like mindless zombies on speed.
    .
  • Drop the whole insect feeling. Why do Undine have to reproduce with pods or have tons of alien-like, goo-ridden power nodes around? Is this Trek or is this just another B-rated Sci-Fi flick?.

The only good thing I have to say about the Undine is that the art team did a great job on designing them. Other than that, the Terrordome experience is horrid.

So what are you ideas to make the Undine a more Trek-like experience that's actually interesting?

I agree, reduce their numbers by at least 50%. Because everyone is tired of the Zerg rushes and dieing constantly in these STFs.

A great example is the Second Floor in Terrordrome - Trial of Janus. You enter a room and facing impossible odds of survival. Even though you are at a new respawn point, you die over and over in thinning out their numbers, and it gets old FAST! After that you clear rooms with a ton of these guys, but you don't have to. Then in the end, when fighting the boss, you get rushed by 50 Undine Recruits! What kind of fun is that?

Cryptic needs to rethink their idea of "fun", more than they realize.

I was looking at your posts in the Tribble Section. Odd that I didn't see any of these suggestions while Terradome was being tested.

I don't bother with Tribble server or forums anymore. Cryptic doesn't listen to us when we give feedback there any ways. They claim they do, but stuff just isn't fixed, such as with the first Season 1.1 update. And besides, why do I want to do Q/A testing for Cryptic and not be paid for it? They should have their own Q/A department, yet it surely feels like the only Q/A they do is from the fanbase. Even then, they don't listen to everything (ie: don't fix everything mentioned). So why should I bother as a paying customer? Hmmm?

I did my part in Closed and Open Beta. I've learned from history.

Even if he had, they wouldnt have redesigned the STF like he's describing. When something is on tribble its basically just being bug tested.

Ah. So you're really just someone who likes to complain after-the-fact rather then help to make meaningful changes before. I get it now. Thanks.

A lot of posters on these boards would have you believe that it is your DUTY to do Q/A testing for Cryptic. Else you can't say anything negative about the game.

Sorry. I just don't find the "they don't listen anyway" opinion to be a viable one; especially considering how much the game has changed in the last 3 months based on forum feedback. I certainly don't think Cryptic would have had any problem delaying Terradome for another week or two to make viable changes if they found them useful in making the product better.

Are you folks new to MMO's? Every MMO has player testing. Due to the dynamic nature of MMO's no group of Q/A folks are going to be able to stress test everything properly. Even with player testing problems will always crop up on the live server.

In regards to content folks are always going to either love it or hate it.

Player testing is a hallmark of all MMO's. When it does not happen the community cries foul. When it does happen another segment of the community cries foul.

No developer can win. If I were them iIwould take everything said in these forums with a HUGE grain of salt, because the fourms themselves have become a game and there are folks that would rather troll here then paly in game.
