Given that I received no response, I might as well explain Slayers to you all.
Upon first glance, the world of Slayers seems like your stereotypical Swords and Sorcery Fantasy world--monsters, bandits, dragons, demons (known as Mazoku), golems, etc. You'd expect the protagonist of such a story to be a paragon of knightly virtue, slaying monsters and bandits, protecting the innocent, and making the world a safer place for all.
What you get... is the sorceress Lina Inverse.
Lina is no paragon of knigtly virtue such as described above--she's short tempered, takes offense when someone comments on her short stature and lack of *ahem* assets, and if I were to give her a motto, it'd be "Destroying Monsters for Fun and Profit". She does take on bandits--one of her titles is "Bandit Killer"--but instead of giving their loot back to its rightful owners, she instead takes the loot for herself and then sells it to make a living in the world. And she is the undisputed queen of collateral damage, even more so than Nanoha Takamachi!!!! Her favorite spell, the Dragon Slave, has the force of a Tactical Nuclear Warhead (complete with Mushroom Cloud) without the harmful radiation, and her most powerful spell, the Giga Slave, CAN DESTROY THE ENTIRE WORLD IF IT GOES OUT OF CONTROL!!!!!!!
Lina also goes by several titles, including the aforementioned "Bandit Killer", "Dragon Spooker" (Dragons step past out of clear revulsion [do not call Lina this to her face]), her official title of "Lina the Pink" (she hates this title), and "The Natural Enemy of All Who Live".
Lina's sidekick, bodyguard, and possible love interest is Gourry Gabriev, a travelling swordsman who's pretty good with a sword, yet is often called "Yogurt-for-brains" by Lina (which is a good description of his mental capacities). He also has a special magical sword known as the Sword of Light, which is capable of damaging Mazoku where most physical weapons cannot.
Lina also meets other traveling companions over the course of the series, such as a chimera (magically created half-human/half-golem) named Zelgadis, a princess named Amelia, a priestess named Sylphiel, a Golden Dragon named Filia who can shapeshift into human form, and then there's Xellos, the "Trickster Priest". (whose catchphrase seems to be "That... is a secret.")
The show consists of five seasons (Slayers, Slayers NEXT, Slayers TRY, Slayers Revolution, and Slayers Evolution-R), each one with their own storylines and major villains. I won't spoil the plot, but it's safe to say that there will be collateral damage aplenty.
If you like spellcasters, treasure hunting, conspiracies, and collateral damage on an almost-daily basis, you'll like Slayers.
So is this going to be a real school or a fictional one?
Fictional. It's intended to be a 'new build' academy (recently build to maximise on British Academy rules) set in the south of England. It was build on the site of an old Public School.
Everything is made up...The city it's based in (Fairsford) is a supposedly prosperous, but caring community, eager to advance - even building a new, direct pedestrian-only walk between the station and the school, which goes straight through the centre of town.

Sounds like something akin to yet completely different from my Northbank School. It is a completely normal school with no signs of a paranormal activity at all. Seriously, why would there be any paranormal activity around this perfectly normal school? You have seen to many TV shows.
What do you mean you never asked if was any paranormal activity and I look strange just mentioning?
Anyway, the school is a hotbed of paranormal activity due to a secret government lab outside of town, a convergence of ley lines on the campus resulting in a magic circle to the land of magic, a gateway to the netherworld in the closet of the boiler room, and some other incidents.
One of the teachers who is chums with the police chief forms a club of students, some more willing then others, to help control these paranormal events.
Anyway, think something like the TV show Eureka, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the X-Men, Persona 3, and some other plots.
My interests are very all over the place when it comes to anime.
First some tear jerkers. I'd highly recommend Kanon and Clannad (as well as Clannad After Story). The makers of both anime, Key, also made an anime Air but, in my humble opinion, it's execution wasn't right. Kannon, Clannad and Air are all based on visual novels and Air was one of the first of Key's attempts to turn the Visual novel into an anime and while the show itself isn't bad the ending leaves you some what disappointed and there's too much WTF to leave you satisfied to get an emotional reaction out of it. If you do watch Air get the series not the OVA. Infact do not watch the OVA of any of these anime first! Don't be afraid to shed those manly, crocodile tears of justice!
Next up, for some more comedy and less tear jerking, I'd recommend School Rumble. This one's super funny and has some very sweet moments in it as well. It's also a good anime to help get you into anime as it does a good job of show casing the sort of fun a good anime has to offer with out going too far over board and scaring you away. The tangled web of love is fun to keep track of and the lead male character, Harima, is both complex and relatable at the same time.
For some action driven anime I won't repeat many of the other suggestions except to reendorse them. Soul Eater, Nanoha (not just for kids!) Cowboy Bee Bop, Big O, Ghost in the Shell, Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist (original and Brotherhood), Dragon Ball Z, Martian Successor Nadesico and Samurai Seven are all awesome anime.
For my own write ins I'd also suggest Clamore, Mobile Suit Gundam (all of them) and Godannar.
Godannar, in particular, was very enjoyable. It's a throw back to the old days of giant robot anime. A man screaming at the top of his lungs about love and justice giving a flaming rocket punch to a giant monster brings twinkle to my eye and a chuckle to my heart. It has to be one of the most epic and manly things in the world. But it's not just some fan service, action cash cow the story was intriguing and the characters interesting. I'd recommend it to any die hard giant robot fan, especially anyone who has a strong appreciation to the classic giant robot anime of the 60-80s.
Glad to see you endorsing Nanoha, Raven, although you could at least get the name right. (I made the appropriate correction in the quote )
As for the RPG, I wanted Subaru to continue to survive after you guys had left that universe, so although I abruptly pulled out after Zona and Hazard killed her, I pulled something I call a "Q Ex Machina" in my mind to ensure her survival. (long form: Higher ups in the Dimensional Scheme of things needed Subaru's continued survival, so they told Q [yes, our favorite Omnipotent Trickster from Star Trek] to go fix the problem, which he did by putting Subaru back together and returning her to life. [like I said, he's Omnipotent--do you think he can't do something like that?] However, he was a little ticked at having to take time away from his fun playing games with Starfleet, so he has basically sent a request to those same higher ups to have Clock prank the responsible parties in his stead.)
@ Zona & Hazard: I can't be angry at you two guys forever, so I'm removing you two from my Ignore List. Make no mistake, though, I will never RP with you two again--because you two have shown that I cannot trust you as far as I can throw you.
@ Raven: Again, glad to see that you're endorsing MGLN, and I do hope that you can prank Zona and Hazard big time in TFRPG.
Also, Raven, have you ever seen the anime Slayers? If not, I'd be willing to explain it here, but if so, what do you think of it?
