As an escort captain I should be escorting and protecting fleets and single humanitarian vessels, gaurding convoys and attacking enemy supply lines instead of running the same style of missions availible to cruiser/science vessels.
STO needs a mission storyline that follows the individual type of vessels we can captain as well as a central storyline. It makes no sense to me why a purely combat designed vessel would be sent on an "aid the Planet" mission or a " Humanitarian effort".
A good start would be to put a change in the Diplomatic mission where we escort the Undine/Vulcan ambassodor to P'jem. As escorts it would be great if we could defend the convoy from Klingon attack in route to P'jem, not to mention such mission specilization would make the game more immersive and less "I'm the Fed delivery boy".
My 2 credits worth.

No please not. There is already a big lack of content, if they spread upcoming content for indiviual careers it will be EVEN LESS for the players themselfes.

And I also dont see any need for it. 1st: Although it is better to play a fitting ship with a fitting Career, you CAN fly Cuisers with an Tactical, Escorts with a Science ect.
2nd: Concerning to canon: ALL Federation ships are Science ships (well at last before the official escort- inofficial warship Deffaint came up). To name one "Science" and the other "Cruiser" ist just ingame to make diffrent types and play styles possible. In the Canon-Universe an Intrebit vessel gets the same kinds of missions a Galaxy gets.
The only expectation are Escorts, and the suitable missions for them would actually be REALLY boring. Just "go there, shoot stuff" is boring, although a major part of the game already contains that.

They could always just ADD ship-specific content to the mission layout, such that only an Escort gets Season 1.3 New Mission 1A, but a Science ship would get Mission 1B while the Cruiser gets Mission 1C. All of which is in one map, and just variations on the theme.

Personally, I'd love to see it evolve deeper than that (adding content btw). It would take time and effort, but I think it would be great to see missions dependent on both ship type and career choice. Science officer in an Escort gets a different mission than a Tactical in an Escort, both of which are different than the same officers in a Cruiser.

Alas, I think that would be so far in the future that they'd have to plan for it right now. It would also mean they'd have to make nine variations of the same mission. Unlikely, but I can dream.

What I'd love to see is more ways to complete missions based on your career choices and the ships we command, and also missions that are specific to the race your Captain character belongs to. This will, in my opinion, increase immersion.

How do you figure adding more content leads to "even less" content for the players themselves?

This is an interesting idea and I like it. It's something different and does lend itself to immersion. I also like it because if done right, it is beneficial to the game in the long run for teaching a player "how to play their class/ship" in a sense. It would seem Cryptic is trying to (albeit nowhere near succeeding) in designing STFs that require a "correct build/gear/team makeup". This could help players prepare for that.

I would love to see class specific missions. I also think race specific missions are needed as well.

This.

I want to be under the influence of strange anomalies and only the one Vulcan crewmember (android, hologram, liberated Borg, you name it) has to get the ship out of range. I want to have first contact situations where only a Benzite can succeed because that alien species communicates via catfish. I want to encounter non-sentient huge space dwelling creatures that can only be reached with empathy. No matter how silly, no matter how far out. I want species to mean something. And episodes like those examples are Trek.

I have to agree tho - except real escorts, all ship classes and captains got the same missions. I mean, Voyager alone... Janeway was a science officer/captain and got the assigment to track down the Maquis. Sounds much like an escort mission to me to hunt rebels. I wouldn't mind a few class-specific missions here and there, but its not neccessary. More content for all would be more important - for now.

I think the next six months of content should try its best to be content agnostic - meaning it can be used with only slight modification by every faction/class/race.

That's the vibe I got from Zinc's report and I think they're getting it right.

Your ideas are great in the long term but, for the short term, they're infeasible.

/Bump.

I found it interesting when I did the mission to take the Vulcan (I can't remember his name) to the monestary, but it is surrounded by Klingons and the Vulcan is really an Undine. My toon is Vulcan, but this embassedor tells me I have to be Vulcan to understand something. But... I am Vulcan...?
