Here's an idea: start your own market.

Instead of complaining about a cap on the exchange, or posting fees, or time limits, why not do use your lobes, and see it as an opportunity?

Make it simple- get together with some other traders, find an accessible location, such as Risa, and turn it into a free marketplace. Become a specialist in hard-to-find items, or an opportunist- hawk your wares, establish your identity, build your market share.

In other words, grow some lobes and be a real trader, facing real competition and real challenges.

Set up a Trade chat channel; market yourself and your items- build a brand identity and cultivate customer loyalty. Make it known that the exchange is for chumps.

Or, set up several markets- DS9 is the place to go for weapons! Andoria's where you get the best deals on data samples!

Sure, it would take time and effort, but it could be done, today... unless you prefer complaining about the free ride you've been getting on the exchange...

i think that would be an idea that you would be able to add to a player owned star base. but i dont have a problem with the exchange. plus they have the ferigini and cargo ships to buy and sell not to mention the vendors in star bases.

that is not a bad idea. only problem is how do you show what you have for sale?

any ideas OP or anyone else.

The answer is simple:

They would rather make a meagre amount of credits by trying to create a communist style echange system instead of putting in the effort of creating an IG Brand.

Although, your idea sounds pretty cool

Thanks, but it's not entirely mine- I was inspired by a WoW player I knew.

She was a tailor who specialized in frivolous items like shirts- no advantage in-game at all, but she was clever and marketed herself to the point that she created a demand. Everyone wanted to wear one of her "originals" so much that she was able to sell them for much higher than the AH value. Last I heard from her, she had made about a hundred thousand gold- from shirts.

As for showing what you have for sale, I suppose you could link it in chat, or open up a trade window with the customer. I'll leave it to the creative-lobed people to find other solutions.

wait we have trade windows? ( I do all of my sales on the exchange. ) anyway I was thinking a pre made mail letter with a list of what you have. ( it's easy because you can copy and paste in this game. )

IMO that would be a cool thing but people wont typically go out of their way to buy something they can get on the exchange for a bit more money.

It would be a fantastic idea if our "crafting" system was way more involved and you could create hard to find items.

Unfortunately, I'm inclined to agree, but I hope to be shown wrong.

This is why I issued it as a sort of challenge- creating such a market would require serious effort and creativity, but I doubt that the people whining about posting limits and fees have the lobes to try either.

I disagree with your first point- a creative marketer can create his or her or its own demand, it happens all the time.

I do agree with the second point- a more robust and varied crafting system would really add to such a system.

Yes, we have trade windows (or, at least we did last time i checked)!

Your idea of a mailed 'catalogue' is a good idea (but only if you ask for one first!).
