Thanks SO MUCH for all your support, and we'll see you in-game!
I was just listening to the Neutral Zone podcast.
They mentioned Mr Zinc said on Subspace radio interview recently that Voiceovers will not be appearing in STO in the future due to cost restraints.
I thought with the attempt to hire Chase Masterson (Leeta) for a Dabo voiceover we could hope for further voiceovers in the future.
Anybody else disappointed with this news?
Honestly, I am not. I don't miss voice overs. Most of the time they are clunky and while they fit in some games I don't think STO and them would make a good fit.
I am not at all let down or upset by lack of voice overs. Not only are they expensive I find them to be annoying. The voice overs already in STO are a fine bit of fluff and healthy "hat tipping". Iv there were any more I would be inclined to turn the sound off. I feel the exact same way about cut scenes or animatics. Mostly such things just get in the way and bleed money.
im not exactly broken up by this news but it is a shame. although im only really interested in hearing the actors, and not just some random npc of the week.

i am
there are certain things in STO that are desperately in need of voiceovers, things that fit within the "canon" of star trek, such as interacting with the ships computer or the cry of dahbo in quarks bar.
these things will add to the legitimacy of sto being a part of the star trek legacy, and meet the expectations of the fan base, reinforcing the expectations of players and add to the enjoyment of the game.
i'd suggest that Mr Zinc should be careful of speaking about matters of cost restraint in the market place, and of using this as an excuse.....this sort of language only serves to act to reinforce players negativity of money grabbing moves by cryptic such as the introduction of c store items that have happened in the last week.
opinions change...
Zinc once said that UGC would be impossible because they need to run every mission that would be generated by CBS.
Now we have a team working on it.
We just need to push hard enough for it.
And YES i think VO's are very much needed for immersion and atmosphere.
I dont need every NPC on SB01 to walk arround mumbling "where's sulu?" but in the Episode Missions it would give the game a very much needed Quality Boost.
and btw. there is not even the possibility of Actors from the Show speaking for their Counterparts in the game because 'DUUUH! None of them are in the game! (or tell me where is Data? where is Picard? where is Odo?... where is Garak?.... NONE of them are in STO so no need for their voices. Simple as that.)
We just would need generic People with the abbility to talk...
Here is the only section that mentions voice-overs. Chase Masterson wasn't mentioned in that interview at all:

Angelina Jolie for Bridge Officer Voice-Overs?
Voice overs have come up several times and we're looking at having more talent from the shows but, no, Angelina Jolie has not come up. (laughs)
If anything, Zinc said voice work is being considered - just not Angelina Jolie for obvious cost reasons.
