He is waiting for the results of the Chief Board. For those that don't know what this is, it is a very important step in the Enlisted chain in the Navy, especially for a lifer. Out of all of the services, there is probably more ceremony going from E-6 (Petty Officer 1st Class) to E-7 (Chief Petty Officer) in the Navy. This is when the Enlisted gets to wear the anchors on his collar, and be addressed as Chief. It is a whole new level of respect, responsibility, and honor for those who take on the mantle of Chief, and take it seriously. A good Chief will take care of his/her men and women, and is someone to be looked up to by the enlisted.
So, good luck CaptWinters, and I hope that you get to put on the khakis and anchors soon!
