Agreed

Because cloak is not what keeps owning the feds in PVP (well most feds, my pre-mades don't seem to have any issues).... I'm petitioning for universal BO slots, screw cloak, RSP stacking a defiant like chassis FTW.

This is so absurd... I'm not trying to be obtuse or troll. However this is ridiculous. We clearly HAVE the technology and have BROKEN the treaty flying the Galaxy-X...

So please enlighten me why we have the technology, broke the treaty, and aren't equipping all our ships with this technology?
I don't know if you've watched any of the Star Trek TV shows or movies, but in them, there are some races, like the Romulans and the Klingons, who use cloaking devices on their ships, and some, like the Federation and the Borg, who don't. I assume this is why, for the most part, in Star Trek Online, Federation ships, for the most part, don't have cloaking devices, and Romulan and Klingon ships, for the most part, do.

But using the deflector dish to deflect the neutrino beam into the plasma manifolds to reverse the polarity of the shields to defend against the theta radiation burst totally makes sense. What star trek have you been watching!?!?
(totally joking with with you . and i made that example, up wasn't in any episode. but it could have been!)

IMHO, the multiple ship types made more sense with unlimited skill points or would make more sense with a multi-spec system of some kind (ie. having a first officer who can be played as an off spec).

I'd really just like to see the extra slot on each ship type be made universal to start with... And then allow us to progress into ships with more universal slots.

And if I could design the game from scratch?

I'd probably have Heavy Cruisers as tanks, Escorts for DPS, Science for utility...

And then make the various Enterprises' classes Light Cruisers with all or mostly universal slots and stats that scale a bit more based on Captain class. Because people will gravitate more towards those ships. And because those ships are historically a balance of being science, diplomatic and war ships, optimized for no task but capable in all.

No Federation ship has, or is allowed to have, a cloak. The only Federation ship to ever have a cloak was the first USS Defiant. That cloak was on loan from the Romulan government in exchange for data that Starfleet brought back through the wormhole from the Gamma Quadrant. When the Defiant was destroyed, Starfleet renamed the USS San Paulo to USS Defiant to honor the craft. However, the San Paulo DID NOT have a cloak and a cloaking device is not a part of the class design. No Federation escort class has a cloak as its standard design, not now and not ever. The Federation is not allowed to develop cloaking technology by the treaty of Algeron. The Galaxy-X DID have a cloak. However, that ship is from another universe. And because the Galaxy-X is from another universe, the treaty has not been broken. The Federation of our universe did NOT develop cloaking technology, therefore the treaty is intact.

THAT is your answer as to why Federation ships don't have cloak. If you want to play with a cloaking device, go make a Klingon.

@Synther

If that "reason" was true the Federation would not only be asked, but it would be demanded, that the Cloak be removed from the Galaxy-X in THIS time-line.

I agree with alot of what you said...

I also would like to see universal BO slots on all Ships, because each and every ship in the Federation have slightly different purposes and in no way do all the Ships have exactly the same Crew Layout....

Also agree to defiant like chassis, Escorts should be small, maneuverable and still able to pack a punch...

Because the Federation has to steal them of Klingon ships, this is according to a mission I had as Klingon, and the reason your not getting many cloaking devices is cause I shot the ones trying to steal them.

I would prefer Uni-BO slots more and maybe a cupholder or something.

"So why don't Escorts have Cloak again?"

Because only cowards need cloaks....

Real men (and women) will battle you face to face instead of hiding like children behind a cloak.

A cloak and a low end beam overload wannabe do not win battles, people that know how to play the game win battles.

If you don't think you are capable of playing this game without a cloak you should try playing a Klingon, I do believe all their ships come equipped with them.

or....they know it'll sell like hotcakes. I'm surprised they don't sell the option for pink phasers, seing as how so many people liked them in the beta.
