# 1 Dauntless-Class

Can we get the Dauntless-Class added ingame. The USS Dauntless NX-01-A was introducted in Voyager in the episode "Hope and Fear". We later saw the the same style ship on Enterprise "Azati Prime".

Memory alpha states "In an alternate timeline, the Federation appeared to have adopted this design by the 26th century, with at least one Dauntless-class starship participating in the pivotal Battle of Procyon V. (ENT: "Azati Prime") "

Since the Galaxy X has been introduced and it came from an alternate timeline created by Q, then the Dauntless could be allowed as well.

The ship could be categorized as an Escort due to its size and appearance, aprox 161m. (Scroll half-way down)

Plus, it's not a Starfleet ship - it's a fake, created by a technologically-advanced alien from the Delta Quadrant, using radically different technology.

And yes, I know it appeared in the far-future bits in ENT - but let's not forget that the Prometheus-class also appeared in that battle, as did the Nova-class, thus making both classes 200-ish years old by that time.

Ultimately, it's simply a case of lazy re-use of existing CGI models for brief space scenes, where someone obviously thought 'no-one's going to notice...' - something ENT was notorious for. Anyone remember the episode where the CGI K't'inga used for the sleeper ship in VOY was used for the 22nd Century battle cruiser, regardless of the continuity gaffe? Again, same problem.

With that in mind, the Dauntless is best left out of Starfeet in STO - although a similar ship in a 'Hope and Fear'-style situation would make a great idea for a possible Episode!

Actually people digging in Season 2 have found icons called "Slipstream Drive"

Also, the ship was seen later in an episode of Enterprise, taking place in the Post-STO future fighting with a Federation armada. Apparently the design was found to be appealing to Starfleet at some point in the future and was used by them.

So it is canon that the design became a Starfleet ship.

I think it's obvious that this was because they didn't have the budget to develop a lot of new ships so just slapped a lot of random CGI models in there in the hope that no-one would notice.

Sometimes mistakes like this happen and you just have to accept that it's a obvious blooper rather than try to give it a convoluted and slightly ludicrous in-universe explanation.

By Roddenbarry's standards, if it is on screen, it is canon. Even if the CGI company tried to save a buck, they ended up making the Dauntless canon AS a Starfleet vessel.

Or there is always such a thing as artist errors. :p

Besides, not only was it an alternate completely messed up timeline it was also way into the future beyond STO.
At least the Galaxy X actually belongs in the current timeframe.

Considering that Roddenberry went on record as stating that he didn't feel that a number of elements of The Final Frontier and The Undiscovered Country were canon, nor was the animated series, I don't really think you have a good handle on his standards.
